SUBJECT: National Library Week Proclamation

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will approve a Proclamation in recognition of National Library Week, which is
April 12-18, 2015.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive report and approve the Proclamation for National Library Week.

DESCRIPTION:
National Library Week is a nationwide observance that promotes library use and support, and
celebrates the contributions of the nation's libraries and librarians. This year National Library
Week is April 12 to 18 and the theme is Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library.

A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
CITY OF DUBLIN, CALIFORNIA
"National Library Week—April 12 to 18, 2015"
WHEREAS, National Library Week is a nationwide observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and
celebrated by libraries across the Country each April to raise public awareness of the contributions of our nation's libraries;
WHEREAS, libraries create potential and possibilities within their communities, local businesses and schools;
WHEREAS, libraries play a vital role in supporting the quality of life in their communities;
WHEREAS, librarians are trained professionals, helping people of all ages and backgrounds find and interpret the
information they need to live, learn and work in the 21St century;
WHEREAS, libraries support democracy and effect social change through their commitment to provide equitable access to
information for all library users regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or socio-economic
status;
WHEREAS, the Dublin Public Library is a welcoming and family friendly community destination, committed to enriching
lives and creating opportunity through the love of reading, the joy of learning, and by engaging with people of all ages and
backgrounds to build an informed and thriving community;
WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating the 2015 National Library
Week theme, Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Dublin City Council does hereby proclaim April 12 to 18, 2015 as National
Library Week in Dublin and encourages all residents to visit the library this week to take advantage of the wonderful resources
available at the Dublin Public Library.
