HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 049-90 CommunityGiftCatalo RESOLUTION NO. 49-90 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN PRE-ACCEPTING GIFTS RECEIVED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE 1990-91 CITY OF DUBLIN COMMUNITY GIFT CATALOGUE WHEREAS, the Dublin City CoUncil has approved the 1990-91 City of Dublin Community Gift Catalogue as set forth in Exhibit A; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the Gift Catalogue is to provide individual citizens, families, community service clubs and/or local businesses an opportunity to make a special contribution to the community; and WHEREAS, gifts can be monetary and/or in-kind (services, equipment) contributions; and WHEREAS, all gifts listed in the catalogue are valid through June 30, 1991. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that all donations will be formally received by the City Council and appropriately recognized (unless the donor(s) wishes to remain anonymous.) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin hereby pre-accepts all gifts received as detailed in the 1990-91 City of Dublin Community Gift Catalogue. In order to meet the growing needs of the changing community, the City has continued to expand its services which now include police and fire, a myriad of parks end recreational amenities, library services, and community develope~3at services (planning, engineering, and public works ). If' you are purchasing a portion of a gift, the City will hold your donation and add it to other contributions until the entire purchase price is received. Contact the Recreation Department for details at 829-4932. The Shannon Conmmnity Center, constructed in 1973, is used for a, variety of coreRunity recreation progrimes and classes. The Center is located in the lO-acre Shannon Park. The Cenier as well as the surrounding park are currently undergoing a major renovation to improve function, safety and accessibilitL Improvements to the center were conxpleted in earlI~ 1990. The park renovation is expected to be cceplete by Fall of 1990. The facility is available for use by private residents and non-residents. With your support, the Shannon Center will maintain the vital pursuit of its goals and visions as part of the Dublin Con~nunity. Since it~ ~fand opening in July 1988, the Dublin Senior Center has become a vital resource to the Dublin ccxmnunity. Each week the Center hosts a variety of special services and activities such as health screening and counselinG, arts a crafts, card games, fitness programs, meals and group field trips. With your suppert, the Senior Center will continue to meet the needs of Dublin's senior · citizens. The Dublin Swim Center offers swingers a free form swimMmg pool (two to e/even feet), wading pool, and two diving, boards. The Planning Program includes development of the City's General Plan, administration of the CityIs zoning, subdivision and other planning related activities. Building and safety services include building inspection, construction plan checking, and code elrforcementl acti viilos. Engineering services range from general engineering, traffic engineering, public works inspections, subdivinion and 'private develolm~nt plan checking to assessment district engineering, permit issuance, and capital project planning and design. The Dublin Civic Center is situated on an 11.7 acre site at the southwest corner of D~blin Boulevard and Sierra Court. The building is approximatel~ 53,000 square feet and houses a full Police facility includin9 an Emergenc~ Operations Center, a short-term holding [acility, an enclosed sally port, and training and support facilities, The Civic Center also includes an Administrative wing, Council Chambers~ Regional Meeting Room, interior court- yard, large scale fountain, s~acious paved plaza area, and a 68 foot clock tower. In addition, the Civic center contains 4,578 square feet of nn~mproved expansion space. Discussions regarding the concept of a Civic Center coeamenced in 1984, when the City Councll began evaluating potential locations for a Civic Center. a committee comprised of representatives of the City Coancil and City staff was formed to hire an architectural team and b facilitate the various needs assessment, financing and design activities. Constr~c~ton began in January'Of i988. The bellcling has a steel frame with an Arizona sandstone exterior. The facility was constructed to meet California ' s stringent earthquake standards. ~nd on October 17, 1989, the building s~ained the test. The project as designed and constructed, oc~ies 7~7 acres of the 11.7 acre site. The remiaing acreage has been reserved for future co~mmity u~e. The goals of the Foundation are to: integrate public art into the public spaces of the coemmity - Pursue artistic excellence in all cultural activities Support local artists of all ages b~ broadening the awareness and appreciation of the fine arts - Educate our Co~nunity in art appreciation and participation - Enhance and enrich the everiday lives of our citizens the nationalIt known artist, Ned Smith. Another major Foundation project is the collaboration between a professional artist and a group of Dublin High School students. The artist and students will work together to create a te~porari work of art. The project will be constructed and displayed at the Dublin Civic Center Plaza. The goals of this project are to enrich the studants and to generate interaction between the students, the artist, and the ccexmnity as a whole. As a future project, the Foundation is currentIt raising funds to develop a "Dublin Sculpture Park" to be located within the Civic Canter area. The Dublin Fine Arts Foundation invites members of the coemmity to become a part of this venture to integrate art into the coemmity.
