AGENDA STATEMENT
CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: February 20, 2001
SUBJECT: Authorization to Solicit Bids, Civic Center Automatic Doors and
Outdoor Electrical Upgrade, Contract 01-01
Report Prepared by: Lee S. Thompson, Public Works Director
ATTACHMENTS:
Specification will be available at the City Council meeting.
RECOMMENDATION: uthorize Staff to advertise for bids
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Budgeted for construction:
Automatic Doors $16,000 (General Fund)
Electrical Upgrade $13,250 (Internal Service Fund)
DESCRIPTION: This contract combines two projects. The Automatic Door project
would convert two existing sets of entrance doors, one in the Administrative Wing and one in the Police
Wing, for actuated operation. It is proposed to retrofit these sets of doors to operate either manually or by
means of a pushbutton. The proposed door opening devices meet the criteria of the Americans With
Disabilities Act (ADA) and all other applicable codes. While automatic doors are not required by ADA,
provision of the door opening devices would improve accessibility to the Civic Center for disabled
persons.
The outdoor electrical upgrade would renovate the site lighting in the lawn area and provide additional
circuits for electrical outlets in the area of the Civic Center plaza. The additional outlets would support
the lighted holiday tree as well as events that are held in the plaza area such as the summer concert series.
These two projects are primarily electrical in nature, and combining the two may result in more
competitive bids. Staff recommends that the City Council authorize solicitation of bids.
