DESCRIPTION:
The City held the third annual "Dublin Idol" competition during "Community Night" at the Dublin
Farmers' Market in July. Hosted by KKIQ Radio's Steve Fox, the program began with a
Preliminary Round on July 16. The competition was broken down into two age group categories
— 5 th to 8th graders, and 9th to 12th graders. During the Preliminary Round, the contestants were
asked to sing a song of their choice for one minute, a cappella. The judges, Councilmember
Biddle; Student Representative to the Parks and Community Services Commission, Sabrina
Tabaracci; and local singer Kathy Blackburn, rated their performances on voice quality, voice
control, and stage presence. Fourteen singers advanced to the final round.
In the final round of competition on July 30 the singers sang a complete version of their chosen
song, with musical accompaniment. At the end of the event, the judges — Councilmember
Wehrenberg and local singers Kathy Blackburn and Bob Campbell — named 8th grader Rohan
Fonseka and 10th grader Amber Knezevic the 2015 "Dublin Idols." Rohan, a student at Fallon

sang "Because of You," by Kelly Clarkson. The winners each received a trophy and a $300
check from KKIQ Radio.
In the younger age-group category, the runners-up were Kaitlynn Miguel, an 8th grader at Fallon
Middle School, who was awarded second place and $200; and Nimisha Shivaprasad, a 6th
grader at Fallon Middle School, who was awarded $100 check for third place. For the older
students, Anne Xavier, an 11th grader, took home second place and the $200 check, while third
place and $100 went to Alicia Tran, a recent Dublin High graduate.
