REGULAR MEETING Minutes CITY OF DUBLIN September 3, 2015 The September 3, 2015 meeting of the Senior Center Advisory Committee was called to order at 9:35 AM at the Dublin Senior Center by Chairperson Ito PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Chairperson Ito led the Pledge of Allegiance. ROLL CALL Committee Members (CM) Present: Brizee, Ito, Krausnick, Mack Committee Members Absent: Lore Liaison Present: Janine Thalblum, Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Staff Present: Cronin, Guenther, Hudson,Jochner ORAL COMMUNICATIONS 3.1 Public Comments Ms.Janet Songey, a representative from the Annual Tri-Valley Community Outreach Thanksgiving Dinner held in Dublin, provided the Senior Center Advisory Committee Members with information on this year's Thanksgiving Dinner. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 4.1 Regular Meeting July 2, 2015 There was not a quorum of Senior Center Advisory Committee members present at this meeting who attended the July 2, 2015 meeting. Approval of the minutes is deferred to the October 2015 meeting. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS— None UNFINISHED BUSINESS—None NEW BUSINESS 7.1 2015 Spring Quarterly Report Staff reviewed the highlights of the report. The Senior Center experienced a 4% increase in Programs and Activities attendance and a 2% increase in total daily attendance. The classes showing significant increases in attendance were Tai Chi Chuan and Ballroom Dance with over 100% increases. The daily lunch program showed an increase of participants from the previous year. CM Ito asked if the instructors or leaders include their individual prep hours when calculating volunteer hours;Staff stated that all time volunteered which benefits the Senior Center may be recorded. SCAC Minutes — September 3, 2015 — Page 2 of 2 CM Brizee asked if Staff looks at the root cause as to why some activities experience a decline in participation. Staff noted that several factors occur such as changes in instructors, scheduling, availability, and declining interest in a class. 7.2 Senior Center 10th Anniversary Gala Celebration Staff reviewed the event. CM Krausnick thought it was a wonderful, first class event. CM Ito received a lot of positive feedback. CM Mack commented that she felt the food provided at the Gala was a full meal not just heavy appetizer. OTHER BUSINESS Commissioner Thalblum reported the Parks and Community Services Commission did not meet in August. The next meeting of the Parks and Community Services Commission will be a joint meeting with the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission. Staff informed the Senior Center Advisory Committee members that the construction of the Senior Center marquee is moving forward; the work on the permanent footing is scheduled to begin on October 15, 2015. Staff shared information about the City's Splatter event scheduled on September 19, 2015 and a flyer was handed out. Staff mentioned the City's Annual Report and noted it was mailed out with the summer Activity Guide. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 10:20 AM.
