HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 8.2 Community Grants Program STAFF REPORT CITY CLERK File #480-10 CITY COUNCIL DATE:November 20, 2012 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers FROM: Joni Pattillo, City Manager SUBJECT: City of Dublin Community Grants Program City Council Subcommittee Appointments Prepared by Amy Cunningham, Assistant to the City Manager EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Council will be asked to confirm the Mayor’s appointments to the City of Dublin Community Grants Program Subcommittee for Fiscal Year 2013-2014. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The City Council has allocated $120,000 from the General Fund for Fiscal Year 2013-2014. The current allocation for the federal Community Development Block Grant Program is unknown at this time. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council confirm the Mayor’s appointments to the City of Dublin Community Grants Program Subcommittee for Fiscal Year 2013-2014. Submitted By Reviewed By Budget Manager/ Assistant City Manager Assistant to the City Manager DESCRIPTION: The City of Dublin Community Grants Program provides financial support to local organizations serving Dublin residents through designated funding sources including the General Fund and the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Each year, the Dublin City Council awards funding to organizations that best meet the community’s needs in keeping with ITEM NO. ___8.2______ Page 1 of 2 program guidelines. The Community Grants Program includes a competitive application process, mandatory participation in meetings and presentations, and strict financial reporting requirements. The Community Grants Program Subcommittee was created in 2009 to provide policy guidance and direction to Staff related to the Community Grants Program. This subcommittee is responsible for reviewing grant proposals and making recommendations to the full City Council regarding annual funding awards. The subcommittee, comprised of two City Councilmembers, meets on an as-needed basis with most of the work taking place in January of each year. Staff is requesting that the Fiscal Year 2013-2014 Community Grants Program City Council Subcommittee members be appointed at this time to ensure compliance with mandatory CDBG program timelines. A process orientation for the appointed subcommittee members will be scheduled for the week of January 14, 2013. The mandatory grant applicant presentation meeting will be scheduled for the week of January 28, 2013. NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH:  Grant application period opening published in local newspaper on October 25, November 18 and December 5, 2012 (planned).  Grant application period opening announcement and application published on City website on October 25, 2012.  Correspondence announcing opening of grant application period mailed on October 24, 2012.
