FINANCIAL STATEMENT : None
DESCRIPTION The City' s Recreation Department offered
a variety of programs for the Community during the Fall Quarter
of 1986 . Included in the offerings were nine trips, six special
events and sixty-six classes. Participation in programs
continues to increase especially in the Afterschool Recreation
Program and the Preschool Program. Below you will find a brief
summary of the activities offered. -
Afterschool Recreation Program
The Afterschool Recreation Program began it' s third year of
operation with programs conducted at two sites, Murray School and
Nielsen School. The program is held from 2 :00-5:OOp.m. for
children in grades 1-6 . There is no fee to participate in the
activities planned. During the Fall, there were "101" children
registered at Murray School and "117" registered at Nielsen
School. Average daily attendance ranged from "37" at Nielsen to
"44" at Murray. This represents an substantial increase over the
past two years .
Facility Utilization
The Shannon Community Center is the site of the majority of the
classes and special events offered by the Recreation Department.
Additionally, the Center is rented out to service clubs, private
citizens and local businesses for private parties, fundraisers,
etc.
Utilization of the Center continues to remain constant with past
quarters . Overall the facility is utilized 23% of the available
hours with the Social Hall utilized most often, 51% .
Leisure Enrichment Classes
Classes for children and adults continue to be popular. This
Fall we enjoyed a success rate of 74% . Karate, Tap & Ballet and
Tumbling continue to be popular with children. Time for Two' s
and Sing-Along time are preschool age favorites. Art and holiday
craft classes for adults are extremely popular as well as Folk
Dance and Country Western Dance. .
Preschool Program
The Preschool Program is in it' s second year of operation. This
Fall an additional class was offered bringing the total number of
classes offered to three. Classes are offered for children 2
years, 9 months through 5 years. All three classes reached their
maximum enrollment of "20" students this Fall.

Special Events . ,;" . ` , -

There were several special events during the_"FalliQuarter. The
department conducted a -Hallowee{n_: Party; ;with ;Y"250" children in
attendance. The Tree Lighting ' Ceremony :drew '300" ,.adults and
children to Shannon Center for entertainment and :,refreshments.
One hundred twenty-three - (1 23)' ,people 'en n s. b=,Breakfast with
Santa on December 20 . This event 'wasco-sponsored with the Exalt
Club from Dublin High School . :with_: 'proceeds :benefiting their
group. The department also :Flea ed ' efforts : with Livermore,
Pleasanton and San Ramon .to conduct the Pepsi Hotshot Basketball
Skills Competition, the Valley_`Flea Market and Swap Meet, and the
Snowball Dance for the developmentally disabled.
Trips and Tours
Of the nine trips offered this Fall, :five 'had to be cancelled due
to insufficient enrollment. - Two particularly successful trips
were the Nutcracker Ballet' in San Francisco and 'the Sunset Dinner
in Monterey. Once again the trips to theFashion Outlets in San
Francisco were successful.
