City Council Meeting Date: February 23, 1987 SUBJECT: Contract 87-3 Annual Slurry Seal Program EXHIBITS ATTACHED: List of streets to be slurried, location map and specifications will be available at the City Council meeting. RECOMMENDATION: Authorize Staff to advertise for bids FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The budget for the 1986-87 slurry seal program is $32,000, plus $8,000 for design and inspection. Staff has developed a scope of work to fit the budget based on a square foot cost estimate for slurry seal. DESCRIPTION: The City Council allocated $40,000 for the slurry seal of City streets as part of the 1986-87 street maintenance budget. The Engineer's Estimate for this project is broken down as follows: Slurry Seal $32,000 Design and Inspection 8,000 Total: 40,000 The patching which was required prior to the slurry seal installation is being done as part of the annual street overlay contract. Slurry seal is a preventive maintenance technique used to prolong the life of a street. It consists of a sand/oil mixture which seals cracks and provides a new uniform wearing surface. The City streets are presently on a five- to seven-year cycle depending upon the level of wear. This year's targeted location for slurry seal is the Davona Drive area. It is Staff's recommendation that the City Council authorize Staff to advertise Contract 87-3. ITEM NO. 41 . cg COPIES TO:
