Review and Approve Plans 2 . Direct Staff to Proceed FINANCIAL STATEMENT : $2500 is available in FY88-89 Budget for Park Dedication Ceremonies DESCRIPTION Kolb Park, the five acre neighborhood park located on Brighton Drive and Bristol Road is now complete. As with Stagecoach Park and the Dublin Senior Center, staff feels that it would be appropriate to have some type of dedication ceremony or grand opening celebration. The Park and Recreation Commission considered dates and ideas for the dedication of Kolb Park at their meeting of August 9 , 1988. In order to provide adequate lead time to plan the dedication and with school starting in September, the Commission recommends that the dedication be held the afternoon of Saturday, October 1 , 1988 . It is their recommendation' that the dedication be planned as a community celebration with the following activities : 1 . Ribbon Cutting - Brief Dedication Ceremonies 2 . Refreshments (options) . a) BBQ b) Box Lunches c) Catered Gourmet food d) Cake in Shape of Park 3 . Games/Contests a) Tennis Demonstrations - Round Robin Tennis Tournament b) Family Games - Parachute/Earthball, Sack Races, Three-legged Races, etc. 4. Entertainment (options) a) DHS Band Field Show b) Country Western Band c) Mimes, Jugglers, Clowns d) Clampers 5. Other a) Souvenirs/Balloons b) Commemorative Tree Planting c) Invite Kolb Family The Commission has appointed Commissioners Donnell and Hernandez to serve on a subcommittee to assist staff with the planning of the event. Additionally the Walder family, long-time supporters of Kolb Park, have volunteered to assist with the dedication. It is staff ' s recommendation that the Council review and approve the tentative plans made to date for the Kolb Park Dedication and direct staff to proceed with the necessary arrangements. Direct Staff to Submit Recommendations _to City Council FINANCIAL STATEMENT : Not Yet Determined DESCRIPTION • Kolb Park, the five acre neighborhood park located on Brighton Drive and. Bristol Road is scheduled to be completed by August 15, 1988 . As with Stagecoach Park and the Dublin Senior Center, staff feels that it would be appropriate to have some type of dedication ceremony or grand opening celebration. At a previous meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission, the Commission conducted a brainstorming session on ideas for the dedication of Kolb Park. The ideas that resulted from that meeting are as follows: Invite Neighbors to Assist in Planning Historical Theme - Depict City History Invite Kolb Family Combine with Senior Center Dedication DHS Band - Concert or Field Show Gourmet Food/Champagne Cake in Shape of the Park Hot dogs Family Picnic - Box Lunches Utilize Tennis Courts - Demo or Round-Robin Tourney Plant Trees Souvenirs/Balloons Contests Haywagon/Pony Rides Jail Clampers Mimes/Jugglers/Clowns As August is a popular month for vacations and with school getting back in session in early September, staff recommends that the dedication be planned for late September or early October. It is also recommended that a subcommittee be established to assist staff with the necessary preparations. The subcommittee could consist of Commissioners and neighbors. The Walder family has already indicated that they would be interested in helping with such an event. At the Park and ' Recreation Commission meeting of October 13 , 1987 , Commissioners Hernandez and Donnell had volunteered ,to serve on the subcommittee. In order to allow adequate time to plan for the dedication, it is recommended that the Commission take the following action: 1 . Deliberate on Ideas 2 . Determine Possible Dates 3 .
