Registration Analysis B. Registration Comparison C . Monthly Attendance - Senior Center RECOMMENDATION( Receive Report FINANCIAL STATEMENT : None DESCRIPTION The following report summarizes the programs and activities sponsored by the City ' s Recreation Department during the Spring Quarter , April , May and June , 1989 . Afterschool Playground Program The Afterschool Playground Program concluded its 1988-89 school year program on Friday , June 9 , 1989 . The program maintained a steady daily attendance at each site and was well received by the children and their parents . The program was held Monday through Friday , from 2 : 00-5 : OOpm , with the exception of minimum days and City and School holidays . The children attending the program participated in activities planned by the Recreation Leaders . Calendars listing these activities were distributed on-site every two weeks . The Nielsen site was staffed by one Senior Recreation Leader and two Recreation Leaders . Their average daily attendance was 51 children per day , with a high of 70 in April for a special activity . The Murray site averaged 27 children per day , and was staffed by one Senior Recreation Leader and one Recreation Leader . For the first time ever , a one time $10 per child registration fee was initiated . In comparing this years enrollment with last years , the fee initiation did not seem to impact the sign-ups or participation in the Afterschool Playground programs . Additionally , the fee initiation resulted in the generation of $2 , 380 in revenue to offset program expenses . Leisure Enrichment Classes The Spring quarter classes didn ' t appear to be affected by all the confusion stemming from the Shannon Center renovation . The success rate for all of our classes was higher than both the Winter 1989 and Spring 1988 quarters . Eighty-six percent of the children ' s classes were conducted as were 78% of the teen/adult classes . The overall success rate for the Spring quarter was 80% . Preschool Program All three Preschool classes were filled to capacity during Session III (April-June) . Each class also had a family "end of the year" picnic at Kolb Park which was fun in spite of the heat ! The session ended with the traditional "graduation" party where the children shared some of the skills and experiences they acquired during the past year . In April , the Valley Community Health Center performed one of the quarterly health screenings . The Life History Writing Class conducted by Chabot College Quest program continued through the Spring quarter ending in June . Average daily attendance for April was 59 . The highlight of May was a boat trip on the San Joaquin Delta attended by a busload of Seniors . AARP (American Association of Retired Persons ) conducted a Mature Driver/55 Alive driver education class . Evening programming expanded to two (2) nights per month with Old Fashioned Dance classes . Average daily attendance for May was 70 . The first Senior Resource Faire was conducted at the Dublin Senior Center on Saturday , June 3 , 1989 . It was attended by 200 seniors and 30 exhibitors . The June 20 bus trip to Korbel Winery was very successful . We ' ve found that short one-day trips appear to be the best attended . Average daily attendance for June was 56 . Special Events The Fourth Annual City-Wide Flea Market was held on Saturday , June 10 from 8 :OOam-2 : OOpm at Shannon Park . There were 58 vendor spaces sold utilizing 42 parking lot spaces and 16 lawn spaces , with well over 200 in attendance . Teen Program The Teen Activity Program was held during lunchtime at Wells Middle School . Locations used on campus were the multi-use room, library , blacktop and field area . Wells had two lunches - the first was from 11 : 22a.m. to 12 : 06p .m . for the sixth and seventh graders , and the second from 12 : 09p .m. to 12 : 53p .m. for the eighth graders . Activities were held on Monday , Wednesdays and Fridays . Activities were designed to encourage positive interaction , healthy self-esteem and leadership abilities . One of our main goals was to offer a program to the teens who don ' t or can ' t interact with others , and are hesitant to use their social skills . Different activities and locations were used in order to maximize our exposure . Activities were conducted by one to two staff members depending on the size of the group that we had estimated on attending . Five guidelines were established and closely followed by all staff members during each activity . A. Set control boundaries (using cones) . B . Stop activity when boundaries are violated . C. Make rules simple , clear and short . D . Safety comes first . E. Have fun ! The students at Wells can be broken up into three areas concerning the activity program ; . A) Those who participate , B) Those who watch, C) Those who like to help staff . All of these students used our program to socially interact with each other and staff by choice in a controlled environment . Activities that students enjoyed the most were the ones that involved water , food , messy stuff and sports . Some of those activities were junk food relay , blind drawing , puddin ' head , bubblegum blow, water balloon toss , volleyball and student/faculty baseball . Attached are the Registration Analysis and Registration Comparison for Leisure Enrichment Classes as well as the monthly attendance report for the Senior Center . 2 amCZ r - CITY OF DUBLIN ' RECREATION DEPARTMENT REGISTRATION ANALYSIS QUARTER SPRING 1989 Y/A - YOUTH/ADULT W/L - WAITING LIST CA - CANCELLED C - COMBINED NON- TOTAL ` NO. p; CLASS TITLE Y/A I MIN [ MAX RES RES REGIS 1 W/L CA C 101 RHYTHM CENTER Y I 4 10 3 4 7 A 1081 SING-ALONG TIME Y I 6 114 13 2 15 6 .
