SUBJECT Ten Year Cityhood Celebration

RECOMMENDATION : Approve formation of the planning committee,
provide input on the make-up of the committee,
V` and appoint Mayor and Vice Mayor as City

FINANCIAL STATEMENT : None
DESCRIPTION One of the 1991 goals and objectives adopted by
the City Council is to plan a ten year celebration of cityhood. In
order to insure that adequate funds are included in the Fiscal Year
1991-92 Budget for the celebration, it is necessary to begin the
planning process for the celebration.
Staff is proposing that a planning committee be established to develop
the scope of the celebration. The proposed:make-up of the committee
is subject to review by the City Council,'' but Staff recommends that
representatives from the City Council, Parks and Recreation
Commission, and City Staff serve on the 'committee.
It is anticipated that the planning committee will meet two to three
times during the month of April to develop a proposal for the ten year
celebration which will be reviewed by the City Council in May. Once
the plans for the celebration are finalized, the planning committee
will meet on an "as needed" basis.
It is Staff's recommendation that the City Council approve formation
of a planning committee, provide input on the make-up of the planning
committee, and appoint the Mayor and the Vice Mayor to serve as City
Council representatives to the planning committee.
