FINANCIAL STATEMENT: A City contribution not to exceed $1 ,900 has been
requested. Funds are available in the 1990-91
City Council Community Promotion Account.
DESCRIPTION: Mayor Snyder has been working with community
representatives to sponsor Dublin Pride Week - April 14 - 20, 1991 .
Mayor Snyder has formed a committee which includes representatives of the
Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Dublin School District, and City Staff.
Saturday, April 20, 1991 will be a special residential clean-up day.
The Committee has met to discuss activities which can be undertaken and are
considered effective in promoting pride in the Community. The following
outlines the proposed activities:
• Work with schools Grades K-8 to have posters with a Dublin Pride Theme
made by students.
• School Principals will select 10 - 15 posters which will be displayed
at businesses and the Civic Center.
• Purchase of 5,000 buttons to be distributed to businesses and the
schools commemorating the 1991 Dublin Pride Week.
■ Purchase of Perpetual Plaques for each school to recognize
participation in Dublin Pride Week.
• Possible placement of a banner proclaiming "Dublin Pride Week".
■ Include a special notice with the quarterly garbage bill. (Livermore
Dublin Disposal will absorb this cost. )
In the past the City Council has contributed funding on a "Not to Exceed"
basis. At this time, the committee has estimated the following expenses:
Buttons $1 ,250
Plaques for Schools (10) 500
Misc Certificates of Recognition 150
TOTAL $1 ,900
The Committee is working with Livermore Dublin Disposal to secure the
donation of a banner to be placed on the City banner poles. Due to other
banner reservations, the banner would need to be displayed the week prior
to Dublin Pride Week. Given the short time frame, this may be a project
undertaken with the 1992 Dublin Pride Week. The Committee is suggesting
the purchase of perpetual plaques for the schools, which will allow
recognition in future years to consist of an engraved plate showing the

year of participation. The Committee intends to include both public and
private schools in the program.
The Chamber of Commerce is also considering beginning a program to
recognize business improvements. A number of businesses have already
improved their property, which improves the overall image of the City. In
order to begin recognizing these efforts on an annual basis, the Chamber is
considering announcing a special recognition program. Businesses planning
improvements in the next year would notify the Chamber of their plans. The
selection and recognition of those businesses will occur as part of the
1992 Dublin Pride Week Program. There is also the potential to recognize
past improvements as part of the City's Ten-Year Celebration of Cityhood.
Mayor Snyder can provide additional information on the request at the
meeting. Staff would recommend that the City Council approve the City's
participation and authorize Staff to reimburse the Committee for expenses
associated with Dublin Pride Week, which do not exceed the amount of
$1 ,900.
