DESCRIPTION: Church World Service/CROP is sponsoring a walk-a-thon titled "Tri-Valley Miles for Meals . " The walk-a- thon will be within the City limits of Pleasanton on Sunday, October 20, 1985, from 1 : OO to 5 : 00 p.m. with participation by members of 16-20 churches in the valley. Although this event will not be held in Dublin, it will benefit Dublin that 25% of the money raised will be divided evenly between the Childrens Emergency Council in Dublin and the Emergency Fund Center in Livermore . The City' s banner policy restricts usage of the banner poles to events taking place within the City limits of Dublin. However, the policy does allow for waiver of this provision, if warranted. Since this fund raiser does benefit Childrens Emergency Council in Dublin, Staff recommends approval of this request. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ITEM NO. ' COPIES TO: Garnet L. Zilske 2282 Via Espada Pleasanton, CA 94566 September 5, 1985 Mr. Richard Ambrose City Manager CITY OF DUBLIN - P. 0. BOX 2340 Dublin, CA 94568 Dear Mr. Ambrose, Sunday, October 20, 1985 from 1 : 00 - 5 : 00 p.m. , members of 16-20 churches in the Valley will be participating in the 3rd annual "Tri-Valley Miles for Meals" . This walk-a-thon is being sponsored by Church World Service/CROP. This organization is 40 years old and has been assisting in aiding the hungry all of that time. (the non-profit tax exempt number is 135562417-NCC-NCC N.Y. ) There are 26 scheduled events in Northern California this year; with a projection of approximately 1800 nationally. Our walk will be slightly over 15 kilometers within the city limits of Pleasanton. The money raised will benefit the hungry of the world with 25% of the funds evenly divided between The Emergency Fund Center in Livermore and the Childrens ' Emergency Council in Dublin. Since the participants of the walk will be from Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin, we are asking all of the city managers permission to have a banner erected for as long as possible in the two week period preceeding the walk. The Banner would be: Tri-Valley Miles for Meals October 20th - 1 : 00-5 : 00 PM Because there are over 40, 000 people dying every day from hunger related diseases, we respectfully request that the installation fee be waived. We would also like to take this opportunity to invite you and your family to walk with us. The walk will be a scenic one beginning and ending at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds with many places along the way to stop. Thank you, Garnet L.
