DESCRIPTION At the April 14 , 1986 meeting of the
Dublin City Council, the Council approved Dublin' s participation
in the Valley Area Summer Jobs for Youth Program. The program
co-sponsored by the Alameda County Training and Employment
Board/Associated Community Action Program (ACTEB/ACAP) , was
designed to bring together young people seeking employment with
local businesses looking for seasonal or part-time employees.
The City of Dublin ' s Youth Employment Program began in mid-May
and continued through September 19 , 1986 . The program was
staffed by a Recreation Specialist, whose responsibility it was
to organize and develop the program. The Youth Employment Office
was located in Shannon Center and was open Monday, Wednesday and
Friday from 12 noon to 5 : OOp.m. Exhibit A contains statistics on
the program including youths registered, youths placed and job
orders received.
In the opinion of staff, the Summer Youth Employment Program was
extremely successful. Although we were somewhat late in getting
started, we were able to generate enough publicity and support
for the program to carry it through the Summer. The comments
that were received by both the youth and the community indicated
that we provided a very valuable service.
