DESCRIPTION At the March 11, 1985 meeting of the
Dublin Parks and Recreation Commission, the Commission
established a Special Events Committee and appointed
Commissioners Schmitt and Ovlen to serve as members . The purpose
of the Committee was to assist staff with the planning of special
events and to develop ideas for new events.
The Committee met with staff on two separate occasions and
reported their findings to the Commission at the October 14, 1986
meeting. It was the recommendation of the Committee to hold a
Cityhood Birthday Party/Celebration commemorating the five year
anniversary of the City ' s incorporation.
Both the Special Events Committee and the Commission held
brainstorming sessions to come up with ideas relating to the
Cityhood Birthday Party. The following list represents some of
the suggested activities :
1 . Poster Contest for Children - Display in Merchants
Windows
2 . Photo Contest for Teens/Adults - Photos of
places/things in Dublin
3 . Fun Run - 5k and 10k
4 . Dance
5 . Shannon Center Open House
a) Demonstrations/Displays from Recreation Department
Classes
b) Entertainment
c) Slide Show - Dublin' s Past and Present
d) Display of Park Designs/Civic Center Design
e) Photo Contest Display
f) Volunteer Recognition
g) Historical Society Memorabilia
h) Birthday Cake with City Seal
The Park and Recreation Commission were in favor of the proposed
event and directed staff to pursue the idea with the City
Council . In addition, Commissioners Zika and Hernandez
volunteered to serve on the Steering Committee for the event.
It is the recommendation of staff that the City Council take the
following action:
1 . Approve the Cityhood Birthday Party
2 . Appoint two City Councilmembers to serve on the
Steering Committee

DESCRIPTION February 1, 1987 marks the five year
anniversary of the City' s incorporation. Staff and the Special
Events Committee have suggested the possibility of having a
birthday celebration to commemorate this event.
In our preliminary brainstorming sessions, the following ideas
emerged:
1. One Day Event vs . Week-Long Celebration
2 . Entertainment
a. Livermore-Amador Symphony
b. Irish Bagpipe Band
C. Performances from City sponsored classes (Tap &
Ballet, Square Dance, Country Western Dance,
Tumbling, Karate, Sing-A-Long Time)
3 . Open-House at Shannon
4 . City Slide Show - Dublin' s past to present
5 . Volunteer Recognition
6 . Display of Park Designs/Civic Center Design
7 . Historical Society Memorabilia
8 . Fun Run (Current City Hall to Future City Hall)
9 . Display of Artwork from Students in Recreation
Department Sponsored Classes and Programs
10 . Giant Birthday Cake with City Seal
11. Celebrity Roast
12 . Raffle
If the Commission is in favor of pursuing the idea of a Cityhood
Birthday Party, it is recommended that the following action be
taken:

1 . Brainstorm further on the concept
2 . Direct staff to approach the City Council with the
proposed Cityhood Birthday Party
3 . Appoint two Commissioners to serve on the Steering
Committee
