Catalog Cuts - Playground Equipment RECOMMENDATION: 1) Hear presentation from Cardoza, Dilallo, Harrington 2) Receive Public Input 3) Approve Design as Proposed 4) Authorize Architect to Prepare Construction Documents Based on Approved Design FINANCIAL STATEMENT: $407,020 is Budgeted in FY86-87 for Phase I Improvements DESCRIPTION At the April 28, 1986 meeting of the Dublin City Council, the Council adopted the Park Masterplan for Dolan, Dougherty Hills, East Dougherty Hills, Kolb, Mape and Shannon Parks. In June of 1986, the Five Year Capital Improvement Program was adopted which provided funds for design and construction of Dolan Park, Phase I. The landscape architectural firm of Cardoza, Dilallo, Harrington was selected- prepare the final design and construction documents for Phase I of Dolan Park based on the masterplan done by Singer & Hodges, Inc. Staff has been working closely with Robert Stone and William Talley of Cardoza, Dilallo, Harrington in order to make certain that the final design is a reflection of the preliminary design approved by residents, staff and the Council. Phase I Improvements include the following: Site Prep & Clearing Trees Grading Walkways Drainage Park Furniture Irrigation Lighting Lawn Children's Play Area The total budget for Phase I is $407,020. Of this, $309,700 is for improvements and $97,320 is for design, engineering and contract administration The preliminary construction estimates prepared by Cardoza, Dilallo, Harrington total $316,791 (Exhibit A) . As these estimates are just preliminary, staff feels confident that tt:e park can be constructed within the budget allocated. The Park and Recreation Commission considered the design proposed by Cardoza, Dilallo, Harrington at their meeting of December 9, 1986. The Commission and- those members of the public present at the meeting were in approval of the park design. It should be noted that there was some concern from the public with regards to a power pole located on the park property fronting Padre Way. The architect has contacted P.G.&E. to investigate the costs associated with undergrounding this one pole. Preliminary estimates total approximately $36,000. It was the consensus of the Commission to leave the power pole in its present location but to screen it with plantings. As an alternate to undergrounding the pole, Staff considered relocating it. To move the pole across the street would require easements for overhead lines over the front yards because of the curve in the street. This would also -require guy wires on the last two poles. In any case, the pole could be undergrounded at any time and should not hold up the project design and construction. Mr. William Talley of Cardoza, Dilallo, Harrington will be in attendance at the meeting to present the final park design to the City Council. It is recommended that the City Council take the following action: 1) Hear the presentation from Cardoza, Dilallo, Harrington 2) Receive public comment 3) Approve the design as proposed 4) Authorize Architect to prepare construction documents based on approved design ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ITEM N0. l y_ COPIES TO: Park and Recreation Commission CARDOZA DILALLO HAUUNGTON DATE: NOVEMBER 19, 1956 PREPARED BY: WILLL-'M E, TALLEY LnD:.ei. nR(Hi:Et T.FF ntPL.•i•;FAX ^ ' CLIENT• CITY OF DUBLIN CDH NO: 86-901 s•.!, :' is , , :..,.
