Approve Parade Permit 2 . Notify Staff of those Council Members Participating in the Parade FINANCIAL STATEMENT $4, 500 is available in the FY88-89 Budget for this event DESCRIPTION The 6th Annual St . Patrick' s Day Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, March 13, 1989 . As in past years , the Dublin-San Ramon Lions Club will sponsor the traditional St . Patrick' s Day Parade and the City ' s Recreation Department will sponsor the community celebration. The parade is scheduled to begin at 9 : 30a .m. and the proposed parade route is as follows : Amador Plaza Road - Begin Amador Valley Blvd. - West Regional Street - South Dublin Blvd. - East Village Parkway - North Amador Valley Blvd. - West Amador Plaza Road - End The community celebration is scheduled immediately following the parade . This year the celebration will be held aL Dublin High School as the Shannon Community Center will be under renovation . Local community groups will host food, game ' and information booths and entertainment will be ongoing provided by area talent. Commitments to participate in the annual celebration have been secured by the following groups : Community Booths Afterschool Playground Program (Dublin Recreation) Alameda County Jaycees Amador Exchange Club American Red Cross Brownie Troop #833 Dougherty Regional Fire Authority DHS Band Boosters Dublin Historical Preservation Society Dublin Police Services Dublin-San Ramon Lions Club Dublin Sister City Association Dublin Women ' s Club Friends of the Dublin Library Jobs Daughters Entertainment Parnassus Puppets DHS Jazz Band Larrys Juggling New Generation Dance Co. Patrick' s Parade & Celebration February 13, 1929 Page Two Correspondence has been received from Bill Burnham, St . Patrick ' s Day Parade Chairman, inviting the Council to participate in the parade (Exhibit A) . As in the past years, those Councilmembers wishing to participate in the parade will be provided with transportation . A parade permit has been filed with Dublin Police Services requesting approval of the parade and parade route (Exhibit B) . The route which is the same as the previous year, has been reviewed by both the Police Department and the Public Works Department. Street banners depicting the traditional "pot of gold" will go up the first week of March . Additionally posters and flyers will be distributed throughout the community. To date interest in the annual celebration has been high and staff anticipates a successful day. It is staffs recommendation that the City Council take the following action : 1. Approve parade permit 2 . In :lust three short months, the DUBLIN - SAN RAMOP••1 LIONS CLUB will be hosting its SIXTH ANNUAL ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE. This years parade will take place on SATURDAY, MARCH 18 , 198? , beginning at 9:30 A.M. As the chairman for the 1909 DUBLIN - SAN RAMON LIONS CLUB, ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE committee , I would like to extend to your our cordial invitation to join with. us in celebrating OUR day by participating in our parade . Our emphasis has always been on having a good time and demonstrating to the adjoining communities our sincere community spirit . Following the parade , the city of Dublin plans to continue the celebration with entertainment , games and, of course , your choice of a wide variety of culinary delights. Not the least of these will be the corned beef sandwiches offered by the DUBLIN - SAN RAMON LIONS CLUB. We sincerely look forward to seeing you and yours at the parade on Saturday, March 18 , 1989. The deadline for filing your application for participation is February 20 19 9. The entry fee for participation in the parade is Q ( per entry, not individual participation) . The entry 'tee must be submitted with the completed application . The check or money order should be made out to: "DUBLIN - SAN RAMON LIONS CLUB" To avoid confusion , approximately two weeks before the parade you will receive a letter acknowledging your acceptance as a parade participant . Along with that letter , you �,,ii11 receive an instruction sheet relating to the parade and a map designating the parade route , point of origin and termination , location of a grandstand, and the setup area. All mechanical equipment must be in sound mechanical condition, equipped with a tow bar or chain, mounted in the front of the vehicle; carry an emergency portable fire extinguished; be at assigned_formation position and ready for inspection by the Dublin Fire Department and Parade Committee. 3. Entry must be covered by adequate insurance. 4. No commercial advertising of any kind is allowed without prior written approval from the Parade Committee. 5. All signs are to be approved in writing by the Parade Committee. 6. No objects of any kind are to be thrown at the parade spectators. 7. All sound-equipment entries must specify type of equipment and use of sound upon the a prerriote Parade Ap lication, 8. No philosophical, political, or religious messages may be incorporated into the signs or used on any entry in the parade without permission of the Parade Committee. 9. Placement in the line of march of the Parade is at the sole discretion.of the Parade Committee. 10. All vehicles to be entered must be decorated and distinctive and/or occupants in said vehicle(s) in appropriate costume. All units please take notice: All units are requested not to delay the movement of the parade. At no time will anything be thrown at the crowd from any parade unit (such as candy, gum, trinkets, informative material, etc.).
