HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.05 PG&E Lighting Program CITY OF DUBLIN AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: May 22, 1989 SUBJECT P G & E - Architectural/Security Lighting Program Prepared by Paul S . Rankin, Assistant City Manager) EXHIBITS ATTACHED Description of Program; Copy of Agreement RECOMMENDATION 1 f .•11WAuthorize Staff to submit an application for the Civic v Center project. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Maximum estimated rebate is $4, 148 . 00 . DESCRIPTION The Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG & E) account representative has contacted City Staff regarding a special rebate program. The representative believes that the Civic Center may qualify as an eligible project. The program is referred to as an Architectural/Security Lighting Program. PG & E has recognized that increased outdoor lighting improves security. In addition, it can enhance the image of a building during evening hours. Staff has analyzed the approved plans and estimates that the Civic Center will consume approximately 20 . 7 kilowatts for exterior lighting. The Civic Center exterior lighting includes parking lot lights, as well as, lights focused on the clocktower and the building. The proposed application would be based upon the lights contained in the original Civic Center bid. Staff is not proposing adding any lights to the project. P G & E will pay one time up to $200 per kilowatt of installed lighting. Therefore, the maximum rebate available would be $4, 148. 00 . The actual amount granted will only be known after P G & E reviews the application. This amount could potentially be reduced based on the amount of lighting PG&E considered necessary to meet local codes . The application form contains an agreement clause. This section requires the City to utilize P G & E for the next five years . If the City did not do this, the City would be required to refund to P G & E a portion of the rebate. Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the submittal of a grant application to P G & E under the 1988/89 Architectural/Security Lighting Program. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- COPIES TO: ITEM NO. /-" 1 rf' r" . .: 1988"$9.ARCHI7I,EC`, RL/ CI'Y LIGi ING PROGRAM :Architectural and security lighting will help`your business by providing higher visibility, increasing safety and improving secunty during evening and nighttime hours It dramatizes buildings and monuments, and keeps ;public spaces alive at night Ii also creates positive publicity and advertising for businesses, corporations and civic organizations ;Well lighted walkways, steps, building entrances and parlung areas help avoid potentially hazardous situations.
