FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: The Dublin Senior Center offers a variety of activities designed to
engage the mind, body and or spirit. The Center promotes healthy lifestyles for all fitness levels and
variety of exercise choices to help seniors improve their physical wellness, strength and balance.
Through art and writing, senior's can enhance their creativity. For those interested in travel, the Trips
and Tours Program opens up a whole new world of discovery and lifelong learning. Following is the
summary of attendance during the spring 2007 quarter.

Attachment 1 is a detailed Attendance Report. In March, trips included a Races, Wine, Beer and
Chocolate Tasting Trip, St. Patrick's Train Ride, and Castle by the Sea Part #1. March special events
included a St. Patrick's Day Luncheon with guitar entertainment and singers Eddie Williams and Paulette
Rene. DancEscape was a Line Dance Jam which drew a crowd of over 100 dancers. Many of the dancers
were from one of the three Line Dance classes offered at the Senior Center. The Foundation offered a
Casino trip to Cache Creek. The Crossing Cultures program offered a Discover Russia Lunch featuring
guest speaker Katya Vekaterina Lobastoya.
In April, the trips offered were Fragrant Roses to Fill Your Senses Trip, Castle by the Sea Part #2 and
Castle by the Sea Part #3. The Foundation offered a trip to Colusa Casino. The April Spring Luncheon
crowd enjoyed the sounds of vocalist Shirley Dourgarian. May Lee shared information about Discover
Burma for the April Crossing Cultures program. The Volunteer Banquet was celebrated during National
Volunteer Week honoring the accomplishments of over 130 people who provided over 10,000 volunteer

' hours of service at the Dublin Senior Center during 2006. Entertainment was provided by a five-piece
band, In Full Swing. The volunteer theme selected was "Impress by Example". Each volunteer was
awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Mayor Lockhart and a Tote Bag appreciation gift.
In May, trips included the Chocolate Festival and Train Ride, Olive Oil, Vinegar and Honey, and Santa
Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The Foundation offered a casino trip to Cache Creek. Mother's were honored at
the May Luncheon. Each patron was given a rose by the Dublin Rotary Club. Entertainment was provided
by the duo Milo & Company. The seniors enjoyed Discover Scotland at the May Crossing Cultures
luncheon. Speakers Margarite McDonald and Betty Boag treated the audience to live music by a bagpiper
as well as a wealth of information. The May DancEscape Program attracted a crowd of 45 seniors who
enjoyed the sounds of the Up in the Air Band.
The Dublin Senior Center celebrated Older Americans Month with a new event called L.I.F.E. (Learn
Information for Empowerment). This year featured a safety theme titled Dare to Prepare for Life. The
event featured over 30 vendors that not only provided information about senior services, but also a safety
tip and safety item to each visiting senior. The keynote speaker for the event featured anchorman Dennis
Richmond of KTVU Channel 2. He spoke about the media's role during a disaster. The main lectures
featured speakers from the American Red Cross and CARD (Collaborating Agencies Responding to
Disaster). Laughter Yoga by Lydia Gonzales, also gave a brief presentation on how having a sense of
humor and breathing techniques can calm the senses during a crisis.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Advisory Committee receive the report.
