FO
MEETING DATE: March 1, 2007.
SUBJECT: Senior Center Volunteer Recognition
Report Prepared by Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator
ATTACHMENTS: None
RECOMMENDATION: Receive report and provide input on the event plan
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: On an annual basis the City sponsors a Senior Center Volunteer
Recognition event for all of the Senior Center volunteers. Staff is planning to hold this year's event in
conjunction with National Volunteer Week on Thursday, April 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the
Dublin Senior Center. Following is an overview of the event.
EVENT THEME V
Staff proposes coordinating the theme for this year's recognition with the 2007 National Volunteer Week
theme"Inspire by Example". The theme truly reflects the power volunteers have to inspire others to serve
the community. By combining with the national event it will call the public's attention to all that the
volunteers do to improve the community. Staff would like ideas from the Committee on how this theme
can be tied back into the event invitations, decorations, and volunteer gifts.
INVITIATIONS AND TICKET SALES
Invitations will be mailed to all volunteers who provided service during the past year, as well as members
of the City Council, Commissions and the Dublin Senior Foundation: Due to the large number of
volunteers, invitations will be for volunteers only. Staff estimates that approximately 40 seats will be
available for guests on a first come, first served basis. Tickets for guests will be $10 per person. Staff
will monitor the RSVP list to determine if more guest tickets can be made available.
EVENT COMPONENTS
The event will begin at 12:00 with a welcome from the Mayor or a Council representative. The
Recreation Coordinator will also give a welcoming statement and then lunch will be served at 12:15.
During lunch Staff will arrange for some entertainment. At 1:00, the Recreation Coordinator will give a
presentation about the volunteer program and the successes of the past year. Special recognition awards

and certificates of appreciate from the Mayor will be distributed as well. The event will culminate at 1:30
p.m.
Last year the menu featured a western barbecue theme of tri-tip, chicken, coleslaw, fruit, baked beans,
corn bread and ice cream. Staff proposes a similar menu for this year's event, or would be op en to
suggestions from the Advisory Committee Members.
OUTCOMES
The primary purpose of the recognition is to celebrate and acknowledge the important role of volunteers
and to improve volunteer retention. Staff will be distributing evaluation forms to those in.attendance to
provide feedback on their volunteer experience. It will also give the volunteers an opportunity to make
suggestions on future training and skill development workshops the City should offer to new volunteers
and those with more experience. Evaluation forms will be distributed with an incentive gift to complete
the form. A special table will be placed at the exit door where completed forms may be dropped off and
gifts distributed.
RECOMMENDATION: ' Staff recommends that the Advisory Committee receive the report
and provide input on the event plan.
