Preliminary Goals and Objectives 2007-2008 RECOMMENDATION: Receive staff report and provide input on the Preliminary Goals and Objectives for 2007-2008 and determine whether there are additional objectives related to the Senior Center that should be proposed for 2007-2008. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The City Council has scheduled the Annual Goals and Objectives Study Session for Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 6:00 P.M. This Study Session provides the City Council with an opportunity to reach consensus on the primary direction and allocation of City resources for the upcoming year. As has been done in past years, the Senior Center Advisory Committee has been asked to provide input on the preliminary Goals and Objectives for Parks and Community Services. ADOPTED 2006-2007 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES The adopted 2006-2007 Goals and Objectives included 11 objectives that were assigned to Parks and Community Services. Since adoption, two additional objectives were assigned bringing the total objectives to 13. Of the 11 adopted objectives, five objectives were given a high priority and six objectives were given a medium priority; the additional objectives were not prioritized. Staff has prepared a status report that outlines the level of accomplishment for the 13 objectives assigned to Parks and Community Services (Attachment 1). Of the 13 objectives, six are complete or will be complete by the end of the fiscal year (June 30, 2007), three are underway and will be carried over to next fiscal year and four have had no progress. COPIES TO: ITEM NO.: 7.1 G:\SRCTRADVCMTE\Statements\2007\1-11 G&O.doc • PRELIMINARY 2007-2008 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Staff has prepared a preliminary list of 2007-2008 Objectives for Parks and Community Services (Attachment 2). Staff has identified six new objectives for 2007-2008. The remaining seven objectives have been carried over from the previous year. It should be noted that objective #2 "Re-evaluate the Facilities Feasibility Study and update the conceptual Master Plan for the Emerald Glen Recreation/Aquatic Center replaces the former objective "Undertake development of design and construction documents for new Recreation Center/Aquatic Center Complex at Emerald Glen Park which is recommended for deletion. For Fiscal Year 2007-2008, there are two objectives directly related to the Senior Center as shown below: 1. Expand operational hours and programs at the Dublin Senior Center. 2. Improve identification of Dublin Senior Center. Both objectives have been rated as high priorities by Staff. For the first objective, Staff will utilize the feedback from the Strategic Planning workshops to prepare the budget requests related to expanding programs and services. Based on the results of the workshop, Staff anticipates focusing on priorities such as expanding marketing and advertising; expanding volunteer programs; expanding the number of special events, programs and classes; and, adding special interest and hobby clubs. For the second objective Staff will be evaluating options for improving identification of the facility. As discussed in the Strategic Planning workshops, it is difficult for those passing by the facility to know that it is a Senior Center. If the City Council adopts either of these objectives as high priorities, Staff will provide the Committee the opportunity to provide input on the specific program plans after they have been drafted. Staff is not proposing any other objectives related to the Senior Center for 2007-2008. However, Staff would like to provide the Senior Center Advisory Committee with the opportunity to propose new objectives. Additional space has been provided at the bottom of Attachment 2 to identify any other objectives that individual Committee Members wish to have considered as part of the 2007-2008 Goals and Objectives Program. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Senior Center Advisory Committee provide input on the Preliminary Goals and Objectives for 2007-2008'and determine whether there are additional objectives related to the Senior Center that should be proposed for 2007-2008. If so, the Committee's recommendation will be provided to the Parks and Community Services Commission for consideration as they deliberate the overall priorities for Parks and Community Services. The meeting of the Commission will be held on Monday, January 22, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dublin Civic Center. • 2 of 2 ADOPTED 2006-2007 GOALS & OBJECTIVES BI-MONTHLY REPORT AS OF 12-31-06 PAGE 1 # COUNCIL PERSON YEAR PROPOSED OBJECTIVE FOR ACCOMPLISHING ESTIMATED ESTIMATED STATUS PRIORITY RESPONSIBLE GOAL START COMPLETION III.
