Signage for Emerald Glen Recreation and Aquatic Complex

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will receive a report on the proposed signage for the Emerald Glen Recreation
and Aquatic Complex.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Sufficient funding for signage was included in the project budget.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council receive the report and provide direction.

DESCRIPTION:
The Emerald Glen Recreation and Aquatic Complex (Complex), currently under construction,
will include a Natatorium, Children's Play Pool, Water Slide Tower, and a Sports Pool for aquatic
competitions. The Complex will feature a boardwalk theme, and include a Staff area with two
offices, workstations for eight Staff, a multi - purpose community room, an indoor viewing /party
area, a first aid room, two locker rooms and two family changing rooms.
On August 20, 2013, the City Council selected the architectural design option called "The
Wave," for the overall building massing concepts. As part of this concept, Staff is proposing
signage in the following locations:
Monument Signage
A monument sign will be placed at the southeast corner near the Natatorium (Attachment 1),
and will read similar to "Emerald Glen Park Recreation and Aquatic Complex" or "Recreation

and Aquatic Complex at Emerald Glen Park." From the front view, the sign will be
approximately 52 -feet long by six to 10 -feet tall above the differing grades of landscaping. From
the back view, the sign is approximately 6 -feet high above the sidewalk. The finish will be gray
board -form concrete that will match the other finishes on the project. There will be uplighting at
the base of the sign to highlight the signage at night.
Wave Logo
The Wave logo (Attachment 2) will be placed on the building at the front of the Natatorium
(facing east).
City Logo
The City Shamrock Logo (Attachment 3) will be placed on the building (facing east) on the north
side of the front entry doors.
Park Directional Signs
With the addition of the new facility to the park and new parking areas, Staff is proposing a Park
wayfinding sign program to help guide visitors within the Park to the various amenities being
offered (i.e. Amphitheater, Tennis Courts, Aquatics Complex, Soccer Fields, Baseball Fields,
Cricket Field, etc.). This signage will be implemented by City staff at a later date and will be
consistent with the City's branding efforts and elements of the Park.
