The December 9, 2009 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:00 p.m. at the
Shannon Community Center by Chairperson Le.

Committee Members (CM) Present: Van Le, Marcos Castro, Gabriela Vasquez, Vivian Sung, Tommy
Cunnie, Asian Brown, Shirley Chen, Alex Rogers, Taylor King, Jasmine Bafaiz, Alka Pande, Krista
Schaarschmidt,
Committee Members Absent: Christopher Hair, Justin Minor, Cam Tran
Liaison Present: Annie Arcuri, Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison
Adult Representative: Morgan King Jr.

ORAL COMMUNICATIONS—
Lorri Miler, City of Dublin's-Special Events Coordinator provided Committee Members a presentation on
the importance and benefits of fundraising and sponsorships for events. Miller emphasized the
importance to first establish a target goal; specifically monetary, to work toward. Miller provided
techniques on how to approach potential donors when asking for sponsorships or monetary assistance.
Miller also gave tips on how to write a successful fundraising letter to donors asking for sponsorships.

ON A MOTION BY CM BROWN SECONDED BY CM ROGERS AND BY UNANIMOUS VOTE;
THE COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 18, 2009 AS
PRESENTED.

NEW BUSINESS
Parks and Community Services Department Goals and Objectives
Staff Member Luna reported the proposed 2010-2011 Parks and Community Services Department Goals
and Objectives to Committee Members. The goal.which the,Committee Members were most interested in
was the goal to continue to look for locations in City public facilities that will allow teens to gather in a
welcoming environment. Staff Member Luna stated that several teen events and classes are being offered
at the Shannon Community Center; department staff will continue to work with local businesses to
possibly co-sponsor events at their specific location. .
ON A MOTION BY CM ROGERS SECONDED BY CM BROWN AND BY UNANIMOUS VOTE,
THE-COMMITTEE VOTED TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE 2010-2011 PARKS AND
COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT PRELIMINARY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES AS
PRESENTED.

Youth Fee Assistance Fundraising, Teen Website and Youth Tutoring Subcommittee Reports ..
Staff Member Gamez gave an update on the Teen Website Subcommittee. The Subcommittee is still
working on creating templates for the website.
Staff Member Luna presented information that he was reviewing a draft sponsorship letter asking for
donations for the Youth Fee Assistance program written by CM Hair. The letter will be reviewed by staff
and presented to the committee when completed.
Tutoring Subcommittee Member Arcuri provided an update to the Committee regarding the progress of
the program. Arcuri stated that she still needs tutors who could volunteer twice a week. Arcuri asked
Committee Members to recruit volunteer tutors to assist in meeting this need.

OTHER BUSINESS
Staff Member Gamez informed members that the St. Patrick's Day Festival will be held at the Dublin
Civic Center on March 13-14, 2010. She asked members to come up with some possible fundraising
ideas the Committee can do at the festival.
