HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.3, Teen Special Events C r;U0�—�• �s2 AGENDA STATEMENT 0_,, YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITEE MEETING DATE: AUGUST 26, 2009 SUBJECT: Teen Special Events Report Prepared by Frank Luna, Recreation Supervisor ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive report FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: Staff will plan the teen special event calendar for the 2009/2010 school year. Ten events are scheduled for the school year. Currently, four events have been planned for the 2009/2010 school year. They include: • Skateboard Competition at the "Day on the Glen" event 9/19/09 • Dive-In Movie 9/25/09 • Capture the Cauldron 10/23/09 F �� • Middle School Dance 11/13/09 Six additional teen events need to be scheduled for the 2009/20/0 school year. Staff has compiled a list of potential teen events for the Youth Advisory Committee Members to choose to complete the calendar for the school year. Potential events include: • Youth Music Showcase-Various bands perform in a concert style setting., Broomball-A game similar to street hockey played with a broom on ice. - n• High School Dance-Plan a dance for High School Students only..° - • Teen Concert-Have a headline band perform at a City venue. • Paint Ball trip-Youth will participate in paint ball game. • Great America Trip-Visit the amusement park for the day. • Water World-Enjoy the day at the water park. • Ropes Course-Youth will enjoy participating in team building activities. Cite Comedy Night- Comedy Event for teens only. _ i k Poetry Slam- Free form event where participants can express their improvised composed poetry. Staff recommends that Committee Members volunteer at the planned events and recruit other teens/youth in the community to also volunteer at the various events RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Youth Advisory Committee receive the report. 2 of 2
