NEW BUSINESS
Fall 2006 Teen Ouarterly Report
Youth Advisory Committee Members were updated on the fall 2006 Teen Quarterly Report, including
statistics and program information. The Committee was informed by Staff about the Student Union
program, which is an after school recreational program for middle school students. YAC Members
suggested to Staff that City youth events should be coordinated so that the activities do not conflict with
school sponsored activities. Staff also reported that the Youth Music Showcase scheduled for April 27,
2007 will have four bands performing at Dublin Elementary School.
Fall Teen.Programs
Youth Advisory Committee Members were asked to suggest ideas for the implementation of various teen
programs during the fall 2007 quarter. CM Mike Pecota suggested having more sports programs, such as
judo, soccer, softball, pines pong, and even rock climbing. Another idea was to have a fundraiser involving
old cars from junkyards; kids would have to pay a fee to smash up the car using baseball bats,
sledgehammers, etc. Other suggestions included having a Karaoke Contest, a Teen Dublin Idol, or a
•
Dancing with the Teen program similar to the "Dancing with the Stars" television show. College tours,
boating trips, and a trip to Tahoe for snowboarding or skiing were also popular ideas. YAC members
discussed having"alternating years for holding Karaoke Nights at Lucky's Pizza, since the event might
lose some of its popularity if it were held too often. •
•
Youth Advisory Committee End of Year Activity
YAC members gave suggestions regarding potential activities for the end of year activity. Ideas included
going to an A's/Giants game, Great America, or Marine World. The Committee took a vote, with the
majority of members voting to attend an A's game. Staff will coordinate a date to fit the needs of the
Youth Advisory Committee Members.
OTHER BUSINESS
Feedback from YAC members
Youth Advisory Committee Members were asked to give feedback about their experiences serving on the
Committee. The majority of the Members enjoyed meeting new friends, and they liked the snacks
provided at each monthly meeting. Others commented that they felt that they made a difference in their
community by serving on the Committee and providing input on youth issues. Some suggestions for
improvements included having more activities, perhaps one a month, and creating a Teen Center for •
Dublin's youth. •
