During the winter 2007 quarter, the Department offered Teen Events and the Student Union programs. Following is a summary of the Teen Events and the Student Union program. • Teen Events The City implements a variety of teen events to offer teens in the community a specific activity just for their age group. Two events were offered including Middle School Dance and Capture the Creature. These events gave the opportunity for youth to engage in a positive and safe environment while enjoying the company of friends. Following is a summary of participation in Teen Events. This was a very popular event amongst middle school students. COPIES TO: • ITEM NO.: 7.3 G:\YAC106\07AGENDASTMNT\7.3 Student Unions Student Union, formerly Recreation on Campus (ROC), is an after school recreation program designed specifically for middle school students. An emphasis is placed on academic enrichment and recreation/leisure experiences. Student Union programs are held in two eighteen-week sessions at Wells Middle School and Fallon School. The program offers a variety of fun activities for teens, including educational programs, sporting events, arts and crafts, science projects and music events. The program also features the popular homework club, and two exciting excursions throughout the school year. The program is held on Monday from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM and Tuesday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The following table summarizes program registration. Daily Attendance 26 Full-Session 32 20-Day Pass 41 During Winter 2006, the Recreation on Campus (ROC) program was offered at Wells and Fallon Middle Schools. A variety of activities were offered, including a homework club to 51 registered participants. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Youth Advisory Committee receive the report. • 2 of 2
