DESCRIPTION: The Parks and Community Services Department provides activities
to teens in the community that enhance their social, intellectual, physical and emotional development.
During the fall 2006 quarter, the Department offered Teen Events and the Student Union programs.
Following is a summary of the Teen Events and the Student Union program.
Teeiz Events
The City implements a variety of teen events to offer teens in the community a specific activity just for
their age group. Two events were offered including Capture the Cauldron, and a Teen Concert at the Day
on the Glen Festival. Six bands performed at the Skate Park during the event.
These events gave the opportunity for youth to engage in a positive and safe environment while enjoying
the company of friends. The Teen Concert was an event that encouraged teens' creativity through music.
Following is a summary of participation in Teen Events.

Capture the Cauldron event, very popular amongst teens, was marketed at the Middle Schools and High
School as well as on the teen website.
Student Unions
Student Union, formerly Recreation on Campus (ROC), is an after school recreation program designed
specifically for middle school students. An emphasis is placed on academic enrichment and
recreation/leisure experiences. Student Union programs are held in two eighteen-week sessions at Wells
Middle School and Fallon School. The program offers a variety of fun activities for teens, including
educational programs, sporting events, arts and crafts, science projects and music events. The program
also features the popular homework club, and two exciting excursions throughout the school year. The
program is held on Monday from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM and Tuesday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 5:30
PM.
Students participate in Homework Club each day of the week. In addition, Mondays feature Monday
Madness; Tuesdays feature Open Mic Day where students can express their creativity through activities
such as poetry, improvisational skits, comedy, acting, and karaoke; Wednesdays feature International
Sports such as bocce ball, cricket, lawn bowling, horse shoes, and whiffle ball; Thursdays feature Sci-Fi
Day where students may create solar cars, rockets, and volcanoes, as well as other science projects;
Fridays feature"Teens' Choice" where students can participate in a variety of games, activities and free
play. The following table summarizes program registration.

During Fall 2005, the Recreation on Campus (ROC) program was offered at Wells and Fallon Middle
Schools. A variety of activities were offered, including a homework club to 76 registered participants.
