PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Pledge of Allegiance was led by Recreation Supervisor Frank Luna. ROLL CALL Committee Members (CM) Present: Brandon Chapin, Lauren DiMiguel, Isabella Europa-Alternate, Megan Frantz- Alternate, JiaXue He, Kevin Jung, Morgan King Jr., Justin Minor, Mike Pecota, Chen-Chen Phang, Matt Spring Committee Members Absent: Matt Pecota Liaisons Present: Alex Deering (Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Representative) Staff Present: Frank Luna and Robert Beasley ORAL COMMUNICATIONS-None MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING-April 26, 2006 ON A MOTION.BY CM. MIKE PECOTA, SECONDED BY CM. MINOR AND BY VOTE, CM. HE, CM. JUNG, CM. KING JR., CM. MINOR, CM. MATT PECOTA, CM. PHANG AND CM. SPRING VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF APRIL 26, 2006 AS PRESENTED. CM. CHAPIN AND CM. DIMIGUEL ABSTAINED FROM VOTING AS THEY WERE NOT PRESENT AT THE APRIL 26, 2006 MEETING. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS Mandatory Ethics Training Recreation Supervisor Frank Luna informed the Youth Advisory Committee that members are required to attend a mandatory ethics training meeting, which is scheduled for Monday, October 9, 2006 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Dublin Civic Center Council Chambers. Alameda County Youth Leadership Academy YAC members were presented information on a five session youth leadership academy which will focus on leadership and local government. The academy will be offered by the Alameda County Administrator's Office beginning in October 2006. This program is open to both high school juniors and seniors and is held on Saturday mornings. This is a free academy and registration is required. Recreation Supervisor Luna encouraged Committee Members to apply. UNFINISHED BUSINESS-None NEW BUSINESS Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) Orientation Luna and Recreation Beasley reviewed YAC policies, purposes, and procedures with the Committee. Members. Members reviewed the Commissioner's Handbook and were encouraged to read it more thoroughly. Luna emphasized to the YAC Members that attendance at the meetings is important to ensure a quorum for each meeting in order to conduct business. Staff will monitor Committee Members attendance, and Members who are consistently absent from meetings without proper notice could be subject to removal from the Youth Advisory Committee. • Overview of Teen Budget Luna presented the 2006-2007 Teen Budget to the YAC members. Members reviewed the teen operating budget for the year. Committee Members were encouraged to think of activities and events that could assist Beasley in planning teen special events. Teen Website Staff updated YAC members on the teen website and sought ideas on how to increase the number of visits to the site. YAC members discussed distributing stickers, t-shirts, flyers, handouts, and pencils as a means to spread awareness of the existence of the site. It was also suggested that the teen website be promoted during monthly lunch activities at Dublin High School. YAC members discussed the numerous radio stations, such as 101.7 KKIQ, that could be used to promote the site, and suggested that the website be advertised on other websites. As for the content of the website, YAC members gave a few ideas on how to improve the quality and quantity of the material posted. It was proposed that members approach local businesses to ask if they are willing to be included in the website for teenagers seeking part-time jobs. Also, YAC could post articles from the Dublin High School newsletter on the website in addition to poetry, art, sport updates, and movie reviews. Members also wanted to see new games be included on the site. • OTHER BUSINESS Volunteers for Family Movie Night Under the Stars Staff solicited volunteers for the Family Movie Night Under the Stars to be held at Emerald Glen Park on Friday, September 29, 2006. Interested volunteers should show up at approximately 6:30 PM.
