 YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITEE
/FORS
MEETING DATE: SEPTEMBER 27, 2006
SUBJECT: Teen Website
Report Prepared by Frank Luna, Recreation Supervisor
ATTACHMENTS: August 2006 Teen Website Summary Report-
RECOMMENDATION: Receive report and solicit volunteers to submit articles for the
website.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: Staff will update Youth Advisory Committee Members on the
website content and solicit volunteers to write articles regarding teen events, book reviews, movie reviews
or other interesting stories for the website.
Attachment 1 is the website summary report for August 2006. The report provides monthly statistics for
the website on the number of visitors, hits, the most popular pages viewed by visitors, days of the week
and hours which people visit the site. The number of visits the website had during the month of August
was 7. The number of pages viewed was 21. This indicates when a user views a specific page each time
they visit the website. The number of hits on the website was 366. The number of hits is calculated by
every time the user clicks their mouse when using the website. According to the report, Thursday is the
most popular day of the week people visit the site, and 2:00 PM is most popular time people log on to the
site. The most visited page on the site was the resources page where visitors have a choice of many social
service agencies which assist teens on various issues.
There is a considerable difference in the number of visits and hits when comparing the months of
March/April to August. During the months of March and April 2006 when the website was first launched,
the site had 300 visits and 26,868 hits. The most visited page on the site during this time period was the
games page. The difference could be attributed to Staff and Youth Advisory Members promoting the site
on the high school and middle school campuses and promoting and marketing the site at the St. Patrick's
Day celebration. Youth Advisory Members and Staff distributed pens and t-shirts with the
dubtownteens.com logo to the many teens attending the event. During the summer months, the number of
hits and visits decreased. This could be attributed to school not being in session and the Youth Advisory
Committee and Website Subcommittee not meeting in the summer months to provide new information for
updating the website. If the website is not constantly changing, teens will lose interest and not visit the
site.

To increase the number of visitors to the teen website, Staff will promote and market the teen website at
different locations throughout the community that teens frequently visit. The locations will include
Dublin High School, Wells and Fallon middle schools, Hacienda Crossings, Stoneridge Mall, Dublin
Library and various City facilities. Also, Staff will promote the website at all City sponsored special
events, and try to promote at other local teen events. At each location, Staff will have an informational
display with flyers, promotional items such as pens or magnets with the website logo to give away. Staff
will coordinate activities at the locations to invoke interest amongst teens regarding the website. Staff will
be on the middle school and .high school campuses during lunch time on a monthly basis to •not only
provide infonnation on the website, but provide games and contests that will attract students to visit the
site. Staff will also work with the school administrators to have the teen website logo included in their
school newsletters to encourage students to visit the site.
Staff will use local radio stations, specifically the Urban and Hip Hop stations to promote the website.
Radio can be one of the most effective media to influence teens, and youth. Staff will utilize email
addresses of teens who have participated in City sponsored activities to disseminate information regarding
the teen website via email. Also, when a teen participant registers for a City sponsored program or event,
the receipt that they receive will have a short sentence encouraging them to visit the teen website.
Staff will work with the Journalism teachers and their students at the middle schools and high school to
'solicit their participation in providing feature stories to be posted on the site. Teens tend to visit the site if
they see their stories or their friends stories featured on the website.
Funds are included in the budget to make changes to content on a weekly basis. On a quarterly basis,
Staff will provide a new feature on the site. This will include new games, feature stories; survey's,
pictures, and contests where teens can win prizes. The website needs to have a "fresh and cool" look, and
by changing the appearance every three months, this would generate interest in teens to visit the site more
often.
Staff will work with the Youth Advisory Committee Members and Teen Website Subcommittee Members
to ensure that the teen website continues to be updated with new games and features so teens will get
excited about visiting DubTownTeens.com.
