HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-11-2002 YAC Minutes . a CITY OF DUBLIN YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES OF:APRIL 11, 2002 CALL TO ORDER The April 11, 2002 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:45p.m. at the Dublin Civic Center by Cm.L.Arcuri PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Cm.L. Arcuri ROLL CALL Committee Members Present: L.Arcuri,K.Laird,Y.Phang,L. Smith,A. Pillar, J.Bao, C. Futerer, S. West, C. Arcuri, C. Champlin, K. Champlin, S. Williams Alternate Committee Members Present: J. Chan, S.Kahn Committee Members Absent: M. West Liaisons Present: C.Neabeck, C. Hootman, J. Cellotti Staff Present: Quigley and Siu ORAL COMMUNICATIONS- NONE MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING-March 7, 2002 ON A MOTION BY CM. BAO, SECONDED BY CM. S. WEST, AND BY UNANIMOUS VOTE, THE COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF MARCH 7,2002. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS-None UNFINISHED BUSINESS-None NEW BUSINESS Dub Town Jam Cm. Bao reported on the progress the Sub Committee has made on Dub Town Jam. An inflatable obstacle course has been ordered and the radio station Z-95.7 is unavailable for this event. The Safeway donation letter has been sent and flyer outline has been completed. This year Dub Town Jam theme will be: "Red, White & Blue." Cm. Laird has suggested that this years Karaoke be a larger feature than in years past. Cm. Hootman suggested finding an appropriate location for the radio station, as Dublin tends to get rather windy. Recreation Coordinator Siu reviewed donations which include: McDonalds, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Quizno's Subs and TGI Friday's. Yvette Martin, member of the public asked if there a list of music pre-determined to give the radio station. Recreation Coordinator Siu answered that the radio station has their own format and they are aware that it is a teen based event and will play music appropriate for this age group. A Subcommittee meeting will be held Tuesday April 16, 2002, 4:00 pm at the Shannon Community Center. On a motion by Cm. Kahn, seconded by K. Champlin,the committee voted to accept the report. SUBCOMMITTEES AND REPORTS Report:St. Patrick's Day Celebration Recreation Coordinator Siu congratulated and thanked the Committee members who worked on the St. Patrick's Day Celebration. Report: Teen Events Subcommittee Recreation Coordinator Siu informed the Committee that the only remaining activities for this year's Committee are Dub Town Jam and the Youth Music Showcase. Siu suggested the main focus be on Dub Town Jam. Report: Youth Music Showcase Recreation Coordinator Siu stated that a meeting with the bands had taken place on Wednesday March 6, 2002. The order of the bands has been chosen randomly and Recreation Technician Robert Beasley has completed flyers for distribution. The event will take place on Friday May 3, 2002, 7 pm-10 pm at Dublin Elementary School. Cm. Hootman commented that the bands performing will be: Guilty Bystanders,Flinch, Sprocket,Third Strike& 12 Deep. OTHER BUSINESS- Senior Center Volunteer Appreciation Dinner Recreation Coordinator Siu informed the Committee that it is customary for the Youth Advisory Committee to volunteer to serve at the Dublin Senior Center Volunteer Dinner honoring those serving the center throughout the year. This year the dinner will take place at the Dublin Senior Center on Thursday April 25, 2002, from 5pm to 7pm. Recreation Coordinator Siu requested volunteers for the event. The Ted Fairfield Park dedication will be held on Saturday April 13,2002 from 11 am— 1 pm. The City of Pleasanton has withdrawn their participation from the Good Guys show due to unforeseen legal conflicts. Therefore the Youth Advisory Committee has been advised to also withdraw from the event. Cm. Hootman shared her experiences at the California Parks and Recreation Society Conference where she learned of marketing techniques to benefit the Youth Advisory Committee. Hootman suggests the Youth Advisory Committee have program information on the Web site as well as e-mailing the Youth Music Showcase flyers.
