HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-07-2002 YAC Minutes .'CITY OF DUBLIN YOUTHADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES OF:March 7, 2002. - 4, CALL TO ORDER The March 7, 2002 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:38p.m. at the Dublin Civic Center by Cm. K. Laird. PLEDGE OFALLEGIANCE Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Cm. K. Laird. ROLL CALL Committee Members Present: K. Laird,Y. Phang,L. Smith,A. Pillar, J. Bao, C. Futerer,M. West, S. West Alternate Committee Members Present: J. Chan, S. Kahn Committee Members Absent: C. Arcuri, C. Champlin, and K. Champlin Liaisons Present: C.Neabeck, C. Hootman Staff Present: Quigley and Siu ORAL COMMUNICATIONS- Terry Edwards made a presentation to request a co-production with the Livermore, Pleasanton, and San Ramon Youth Commissions for a Youth Day at the Good Guys Auto Show; a nationally recognized event. The event will take place June 2, at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. A sub-committee will meet to discuss and organize the event. The Good Guys Organization has already approved the event, and will provide technical assistance, support, flyers, and artwork. The average attendance to one of these Good Guys events is approximately 75,000 per weekend. BY UNANIMOUS VOTE, THE COMMITTEE DECIDED TO MOVE THE REQUEST OF A CO- PRODUCTION TO NEW BUSINESS FOR THE APRIL MEETING. MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING-February 7, 2002 ON A MOTION BY CM. M. WEST, SECONDED BY CM. S. WEST, AND BY UNANIMOUS VOTE, THE COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 7,2002. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS-None UNFINISHED BUSINESS-None NEW BUSINESS City Council Goals and Objectives Recreation Coordinator Siu reviewed the City Council goals and objectives with the Committee. It was decided that there were no new goals, however, he stressed that participation in all of the upcoming events needs to grow. SUBCOMMITTEES AND REPORTS Report:St. Patrick's Day Celebration Recreation Specialist Quigley informed the committee that for the St. Patrick's Celebration more volunteers are needed to work the Fun Run. Report: Teen Events Subcommittee Recreation Coordinator H. Siu, suggested participating in the `Relay for Life' event, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The event costs $400 per group of 10 people. (roughly $40 per person in each group) The funds to participate can be raised through donations. Report: Youth Music Showcase Recreation Coordinator Siu pointed out that the event is coming along smoothly. The date of the event is Friday, May 3, 2002, at the Senior Center. The built-in sound system at the Senior Center will help greatly. The sub-committee is meeting to discuss this event. So far, demos have been sent in, and roughly 4-5 bands will be selected to perform in the allotted time slot. (4-5pm) Siu noted that this event is also attracting performers outside of the Dublin area. Report:Dub Town Jam Recreation Coordinator Siu announced a sub-committee meeting on Wednesday from 4:00-5:OOpm. Donations have already been received for this event. The location for this event was voted upon, and by unanimous decision Emerald Glen Park will be the site for the Dub Town Jam. Report: Teen Day Event Recreation Specialist Quigley announced the winner of the music showcase will play at the Alameda County Fair. The Big Secret Performer is still TBA. The date for this event is June 21, 2002. Report:EQ,gstravaaanza Recreation Coordinator Siu announced the Easter Eggstravaganza will be on Saturday, March 30, from 9:00-11:30am, at the Shannon Community Center. Volunteers will work at booths set up for arts and crafts, games, face painting, etc...
