K.Laird. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Cm. K.Laird. ROLL CALL Committee Members Present: C. Arcuri, J. Bao, C. Champlin, C. Futterer, K. Laird, Y. Phang, A. Pillar, L. Smith,M.West, and S.West Alt. Committee Members: J. Chan Committee Members Absent: L.Arcuri, K. Champlin, C. Futterer and Alt. Cm. S. Kahn Liaisons Present: Celotti, Hootman and Neabeack Staff Present: Quigley and Siu ORAL COMMUNICATIONS-None MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING-December 6, 2001 ON A MOTION BY ALT. CM.J. CHAN, SECONDED BY CM.L.SMITH,AND BY UNANIMOUS VOTE,THE COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF JANUARY 3, 2002, CHANGING CM. J. CHAN AND CM.S.KAHN TO ALTERNATE COMMITTEE MEMBERS. . WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS-None UNFINISHED BUSINESS-None . NEW BUSINESS City Council Goals and Objectives Cm. K. Laird reviewed the City Council goals and objectives with the Committee. It was decided that there were no new goals however, the committee suggested the following program changes. The snow skiing and snow tubing trips on the same day at the same location; offer a self esteem/life skills class and a cheerleading/dance class through R.O.C. and organize lunch time recreational sports or competitions at Dublin High School. The Committee recommends forming a YAC Subcommittee for the 2002-2003 term to create a YAC publication twice a year, and distribute them in the activity guide, high school newspaper, and at middle school registration. The Committee also suggested studying the renovation of the vacant Cinema at the Target Shopping Center to create a teen center. ON A MOTION BY ALT. CM. J. CHAN, SECONDED BY CM. C. ARCURI, AND BY UNANIMOUS VOTE, THE COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE PROPOSED OBJECTIVES FOR 2002. SUBCOMMITTEES AND REPORTS Report: St.Patrick's Day Celebration Recreation Specialist Quigley informed the committee that the St. Patrick's Day Subcommittee will be setting up a booth at the St. Patrick's Day Festival where teens can spin a wheel to receive various prizes including green handprint YAC stickers,YAC temporary tattoos, and candy. The booth will also include event flyers, information on the Youth Advisory Committee for 2002-2003,music, and City information and publications. Report: Teen Events Subcommittee Recreation Specialist Quigley reported on Capture the Creature from Outer Space, a successful event attended by 20 teens..She also report on suggested improvements for Capture the Flag Nights in the future. The.Committee's next event is a Q-Zar Night for middle school students on Friday, February 15th from 7:00- 11:00 p.m. The Youth Music Showcase has been moved from March 15t to March 29t. Report: Youth Music Showcase Recreation Coordinator Siu updated the Committee on the progress of the Youth Music Showcase. It will be held at the Dublin Senior Center, and bands from last year will be contacted to submit demo tapes. Cm. K. Laird suggested turning the lights off and using spotlights and colorful lights to make a better setting for a concert.. Report:Dub Town Jam Cm. J. Bao reported that donation letters have been sent out, but there is a little delay because the committee is considering a new location. The Committee.gave input on both the Emerald Glen park and Civic Center locations under consideration. Recreation Coordinator Siu informed the Committee that the next meeting for Dub Town Jam will be held Wednesday, February 13`''from 4:00- 5:00 p.m. at the Shannon Community Center. Votes for the preferred location may be emailed to Recreation Coordinator Siu. OTHER BUSINESS Brief Informational Only Reports from Youth Advisory Committee Members and/or Staff Recreation Specialist Quigley commented that the Committee should portray a positive image to the public, and specific details of the event should be kept within Committee. Cm.M. West reported that the Leo Club would like to help with Dub Town Jam. Liaison Hootman reported on plans to tear down the Dublin Library and construct the new Senior Center on that site.
