CALL TO ORDER
The January 3, 2002 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:44 p.m. at the Dublin Civic
Center by Cm.K. Champlin.

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING-December 6, 2001
ON A MOTION BY CM. S. KAHN, SECONDED BY CM. S. WEST, AND BY UNANIMOUS VOTE, THE
COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF DECEMBER 6,2001.

NEW BUSINESS
St. Patrick's Day Celebration
Cm. K. Champlin reviewed the possibilities for involvement with the St. Patrick's Day Celebration and received input
from the Committee.
ON A MOTION BY CM. M. WEST, SECONDED BY CM. S. KAHN, AND BY UNANIMOUS VOTE, THE
COMMITTEE VOTED TO BE INVOLVED IN THE ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATION BY ASSISTING
AT THE CITY OF DUBLIN INFORMATION BOOTH AND WITH THE FUN RUN.
Alameda County Fair Teen Day
Cm. K. Champlin and Recreation Coordinator Siu reviewed the report with the Committee and determined the
Committee's involvement in the Alameda County Fair Teen Day event. Cm. A. Pillar and Cm. S. West will co-chair the
Teen Day at the Fair Subcommittee.
ON A MOTION BY CM.J. CHAN,AND SECONDED BY C. FUTERER, THE COMMITTEE VOTED WITH 12
YEARS, 0 NAYS, AND 1 ABSTENTION TO CREATE A SUBCOMMITTEE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
ALAMEDA COUNTY FAIR'S TEEN DAY.
SUBCOMMITTEES AND REPORTS
Report:Snowboard Trip
Recreation Coordinator Siu went over the upcoming Snowboard Trip and reminded the Committee to continue promoting
the trip.
Report: YAC Shirts
Recreation Specialist Quigley reported the status of the Committee's T-shirts, which should be ready for pickup by mid-
January.
Report: YAC Attack
Recreation Coordinator Siu notified the Committee that the YAC Attack Subcommittee has not met, and there is nothing
to report.
Report:Solar Extreme Bowline
Recreation Coordinator Siu gave information on Solar Extreme Bowling, which was a great success, with an attendance
of 53 teens.
Report:Dub Town Jam
Cm. J. Bao informed the Committee that the Dub Town Jam Subcommittee had narrowed down the possible themes to:
Red, White, and Blue, Mardi Gras, or Cinco De Mayo. The Subcommittee is open to advice for more sponsors and would
like to use radio station 95.7, 106.1, 101.7, or 94.9. Activities may include earth ball soccer, a bounce house, or a bungee
run. An American flag patch is a possible giveaway, and promotion will include video bulletin announcements and
bookmark size flyers. The event will be co-sponsored by Dublin High School Leadership.
OTHER BUSINESS
Brief Informational Only Reports from Youth Advisory Committee Members and/or Staff
Recreation Specialist Quigley gave out details on the next teen event, Capture the Creature from Outer Space Night,
which will be held Friday, January 18th from 7:30- 10:30 p.m. at the Shannon Community Center and in Shannon Park.
She also announced an upcoming youth leadership conference for high school teens.
Recreation Coordinator Siu stated that the Youth Music Showcase Subcommittee meeting will be held Monday, January
7th at 3:30 p.m. at the Shannon Community Center. The YAC Attack Workshop Subcommittee meeting will also be held
on Monday,January 7th from 4:00-5:00 at the Shannon Community Center. Staff Siu also presented the new Youth
Advisory Committee banner.
Liaison Hootman responded to a prior question on a volleyball program for older teens. The current program is for
younger teens, but if the program does well, it may be expanded to include the older age group. She announced that a
mosaic tile wall featuring birds on tiles and a large bird centerpiece was chosen as the Art in the Parks project for Ted
Fairfield Park.
