HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.1 Goals & Objectives Status Report CITY OF DUBLIN YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE AGENDA STATEMENT MEETING DATE: March 7, 2002 SUBJECT: Goals and Objectives Status Report ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive report FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The midpoint of the 2001-2002 Youth Advisory Committee term has been reached and will come to an end in August 2002 as noted in the bylaws. At the October meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee, the Committee adopted goals and objectives for the 2001-2002 term. The current status of the goals and objectives is summarized below. GOAL I Implement teen activities events and recreational opportunities. Objective 1.1 Offer monthly Teen Events Y.A.C. Status: September- Day on the Glen Event October- Capture the Flag Night November- Karaoke Night December- Solar Extreme Bowling January- Capture the Flag Night February- Q-Zar Night March- St. Patrick's Day/Fun Run April- Youth Music Showcase May- Dub Town Jam Events for the summer months are currently in the planning stages. Objective 1.2 Offer annual "Dub Town Jam" Y.A.C. Status: The Red, White and Blue themed event will take place Friday, May 17th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. aerald Glen Par near the basketball courts and skate park. This free teen event wall an'elude food, karaoke, music, activities,pie eating contest, prizes, giveaways, and other wacky contests. The subcommittee will begin promotions in March. Objective 1.3 Offer a local music event focused on youth bands Y.A.C. Status: The Youth Music Showcase will feature 4-5 teen bands pea forming at the Senior Center. Entry forms are currently being accepted and the band selection will take place on March 29, 2002. The target date for this event is May 3, 2002, and promotion will begin in March. COPIES TO: ITEM NO. 7.1 G:\Y.A.C\Statements\01.02\03.01.00 Goals and Obj Report.doc • GOAL 2 Improve publicity and attendance by Y.A.C. members and the community for teens activities and events offered by the Y.A.C. and community organizations. Y.A.C. Status: Progress has been made toward advancing the options and standards for publicizing events. The publicity subcommittee implemented several innovative promotional standards including: school announcements, creating large posters to hang at Dublin High School,placing flyers in selected classrooms, and distributing flyers to classmates. The subcommittee has also given each Y.A.C. member the responsibility of distributing 20+flyers for each event. GOAL 3 Increase teen awareness of the Youth Advisory Committee functions and the opportunities for teen involvement in the Committee. Objective 3.1 Create t-shirts to promote the Y.A.C. and encourage members to wear the shirts. Y.A.C. Status: The Y.A.C. has created black T-shirts with white lettering which promotes the Youth Advisory Committee. Each Committee member was given a T-shirt and has worn them to teen events and activities. Objective 3.2 Provide an opportunity for a Y.A.C. presence at the St. Patrick's Day Festival and other City functions. Y.A.C. Status: The subcommittee has organized two opportunities for Y.A.C. involvement in the St. Patrick's Day festivities. 1) The Y.A.C. will set up a table at the City of Dublin booth and hand out Y.A.C. promotional items and "Y.A.C. Temporary Tattoos" on Saturday and Sunday; March 16 & 17, 2002. Y.A.C. members will also be volunteering in the festival information booth representing the City and providing information to festival visitors. 2) The Y.A.C. members will be volunteering at the "Fun Run" on Sunday, March 17, 2002. Objective 3.3 Encourage members to be available for questions from peers regarding City business, local issues, and youth topics. Y.A.C. Status: Committee members have been available to peers; however, there have been very few inquiries. Objective 3.4 Actively recruit non-members to serve on subcommittees. Y.A.C. Recommendation Staff recommends that the Youth Advisory Committee receive the report.
