SUBJECT: Jordan Ranch Neighborhood Park Names Prepared by Rhonda Franklin, Management Analyst
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Parks & Community Services Commission will consider names for the neighborhood park located in the
Jordan Ranch residential community.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommend three (3) names, in order of preference, for City Council consideration.
DESCRIPTION:
The Jordan Ranch residential community is generally located at the northeast corner of Fallon Road and
Central Parkway. The neighborhood park parcel is 4.9 acres and located along Jordan Ranch Drive
(Attachment 1). The street wraps around the park on three sides with the fourth side to the south abutting a
trail that runs north to south through the Positano and Jordan Ranch Developments, as well as an open space
area and seasonal creek.
The conceptual design alternatives were presented to the Commission on December 16, 2013, and approved
by the City Council on January 21, 2014 (Attachment 2). The conceptual design includes the following
amenities:
• Shaded playground with areas for tots ages two to five and youth ages five to 12;
• Group picnic area with tables and barbecues;
• Open space meadow for informal sports, games, and passive activities;
• Basketball court;
• Volleyball court;
• Trail access; and

• Restroom facility.
Park opening is anticipated for spring 2017.
An online survey (Attachment 3) was used to solicit input from the public regarding potential park names
from May 21 through June 10, 2016. The survey was advertised by way of the City’s website and newsflash
features, email distribution lists, flyers at public counters and Farmers’ Markets, Dublin Unified School
District distribution lists (PeachJar), and social media. A total of 379 persons responded to the survey.
Respondents were provided with an image of the conceptual design and list of amenities, and the following
information to assist in the naming suggestions:
The site is a 4.9-acre neighborhood park located in the Jordan Ranch residential community
which is generally located at the northeast corner of Fallon Road and Central Parkway.
As a general guideline, names for the park should reflect the following considerations:
• Geographic location and characteristics
• Landscaping, topography, natural features
• Design amenities or features
• Historical significance
• Recognition of a significant contributor to the advancement of the City
Respondents were asked to rank a list of Staff suggested park names and were given the option of suggesting
up to three additional park names. Below are the results of that survey in rank order:
1. Jordan Ranch Park
2. Sunrise Park
3. Jordan Park
4. Hillview Park
5. Jordan Terrace
6. Valley View
7. Vista Park
8. The Ranch Park
9. Valley Park
10. Sutter Park
Write-in suggestions were received from 140 respondents and the top five write-in suggestions received
approximately five to 10 votes each and are listed below:
• Central Park (variation: Valley Central Park)
• Georgean Park (variation: Georgean Vonheeder Park)
• Hillside Park (variations: Hillside View, Hillside Terrace, Hillside Valley)
• Shamrock Park (variations: Shamrock Hills, Shamrock Ranchlands)
• Fallon Park (variations: Fallon Central Park, Fallon Corners Park, Fallon Crossing Park, Jeremiah
Fallon Park)
