DESCRIPTION: In 2000-2001 the City Council identified the funding of a Freeway
Underpass Art Project as a high priority goal. The freeway underpasses selected for the project include
the underpass at Dublin Boulevard, and the underpass at Amador Valley Boulevard.
The painting of Dublin Boulevard was completed in August and the lighting company has begun
installation on Dublin Boulevard. The lighting installation for each boulevard will take approximately
two weeks. The painting at Amador Valley Boulevard is complete and it has been graffiti coated. The
next step in the project is for the sidewalks to be stained at both boulevards to match the murals. Staff
anticipates completion of the project in its entirety by November 3rd
For the unveiling of the Mural, Staff recommends 'a ribbon cutting ceremony. The suggested date for the
ceremony is November 15th, Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Amador Valley Boulevard Mural site. The Mayor,
current City Council and the City Council from the incorporation of the City could cut the ribbon(as they
are depicted in the mural). The artist team would be on hand to answer questions of the public and
discuss the project. Light refreshments would be served.
It is the recommendation of Staff that the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission receive the presentation
from Staff, provide input on the proposed event and recommend approval to the City Council.
