HERITAGE AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
AGENDA STATEMENT
MEETING DATE:June 12, 2003
SUBJECT: Appointment to Public Art Task Force
ATTACHMENTS: Resumes
RECOMMENDATION:' Make appointment of a representative and an alternate to sit on the
Public Art Task Force.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: In 2001-2002 the Dublin City Council rated as a high priority goal:
• "the creation of a Public Art Master Plan for the City of Dublin". The Public Art Master Plan will
provide a comprehensive plan to formally articulate the City's goals and objectives and establish
guidelines for the operation of the City's Public Art Program.
The consulting firm approved at the June 3, 2003 City Council meeting for the project is Wright
Consulting, headquartered in Felton, Ca. The consulting team is Virginia Wright, principal and Jerry
Allen, senior associate. (Please see attached resumes) The consultant team will review the City's overall
development plans, make recommendations that will encourage the integration of a unified public art
program into those plans to provide a framework for public art in Dublin, identifying sites, scale, medium
and type of work. Additionally, the consultant team will identify the most common funding sources for
private and municipal art and make recommendations to the City.
As part of their proposal Wright Consulting recommends forming a Public Art Task Force for the
planning process. The Task Force, along with designated Staff will identify key issues and people,
provide guidance to the consultant on Dublin's culture, review draft plans and make final
recommendation on the Public Art Master Plan to the Commission and Council.
The following is the projected time line for the Public Art Master Plan:
• • June 3, 2003 City Council to Award Consulting Services Agreement
• June 13, 2003 Orientation for Consultant
• July 2003 Formation of Public Art Task Force
• August 2003 Public Art Task Force Meeting 1
• September 2003 Public Art Task Force Meeting 2
• October 2003 Drafts of the Public Art Master Plan
• November 2003 Public Art Task Force Meeting 3
• December 11, 2003 Master Public Art Plan to Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission for
Review
• January 6, 2004 Public Art Master Plan to City Council for approval.
