AGENDA STATEMENT
MEETING DATE: February 13, 2003
SUBJECT: Acquisition/Deaccession Committee for artifacts at the Heritage
Center Museum.

RECOMMENDATION: 1) Receive presentation by Elizabeth Isles, Heritage Center Director
2) Appoint committee member and an alternate.

DESCRIPTION: The City Council called for a collection management plan in their
Preliminary Goals & Objectives 2002-2003 page 13 items #9 which states: "Develop plans for
documentation, certification and cataloging of the City's collections."
In November 2001, the Director of the Heritage Center organized a committee to examine and draft a
Collections Management Policy. The Committee was made-up of a representative from the Dublin
Historical Preservation Association; two members of the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission, a local
fourth grade schoolteacher, and two Interpretative Volunteers from the Dublin Heritage Center.
In January 2003, City Council approved the Collections Management Policy and Procedures as
recommended by the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission with the following recommendations: to
encourage collections of artifacts post 1960, and to create a committee to review artifacts for acquisition
and deaccession. It was recommended that this committee along with Staff, consist of one volunteer from
the Dublin Historical Preservation Association and one member of the Heritage and Cultural Arts
Commission.
It is the recommendation of Staff that the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission Chairperson appoint a
commissioner and an alternate to the Heritage Center Acquisition/Deaccession Committee.
