SUBJECT: Appointment to Art in the Parks Selection Committee

RECOMMENDATION: Make appointment of a representative and an alternate to sit on the
Art Selection Committee
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: In September of 1993 the Dublin City Council gave conceptual
approval to the Dublin Fine Arts Foundation's proposed "Art in the Parks"program. The goal of the "Art
in the Parks" program is to enhance City parks through the placement of artworks appropriate to each
park's history, location, size and use. To date, site-specific works have been placed in Stagecoach, Alamo
Creek, Kolb, Mape Memorial, Shannon and Ted Fairfield Parks.
The Foundation takes the following steps to ensure the best art appropriate for each park:
• The Foundation conducts a call for artists and received responses from approximately 30 Northern
California artists;
• Neighborhood Selection Committees are formed made up of residents living adjacent to the parks;
• The Committees receive a brief overviews of public art, review slides of potential artists and then
invite a selected number of artists to create models of proposed artworks;
• The models are put on display at the Dublin Civic Center and notebooks soliciting comments on the

models are available for public reaction;
• A public reception is held to view the models and meet the artists.
The Art in the Parks program will continue with the addition of artwork to the Dublin Ranch Area G
Neighborhood Park. The Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission has been requested to appoint a
Commissioner to serve on the Art Selection Committee. As per the Bylaws and Rules of Procedure for
the Commission, the Chairperson "appoints committees and chairpersons of committees as necessary". It
fs the recommendation of Staff that the Chairperson make an appointment of a representative and an
alternate to the Art Selection Committee for the Dublin Ranch Area G Neighborhood Park.
