AGENDA STATEMENT
MEETING DATE:July 8, 2004
SUBJECT: JazzMasters Workshop
ATTACHMENTS: None
RECOMMENDATION: Receive Report
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: The JazzMasters Workshop has . been well received by the
participants and their parents this summer. There were a total of 15 students registered for the workshop
and 3 students on the waiting list. Two students dropped the course and Jazzmasters agreed to add one
additional student for a total of 16 students for the summer. There have been numerous guest artists each
week including renowned saxophonist, Jules Broussard.
Staff has discussed with Executive Director, Bruce Forman, about having a recital at the last class for the
parents, sponsors and other interested members of the community. This would be free and open to anyone
that would want to attend. Staff would produce an invitational flyer that could be given to the parents to
give to friends and family and mailed to the sponsors, Commissioners and City Council.
There has been some discussion that the JazzMasters program becomes a year round program but that was •
not allocated for in the budget. At this time, Staff has allocated funding for the summer program for
Fiscal Year 2005-2006 contingent on sponsorship for the program.
RECOMMENDATION: Receive report from Staff.
