HomeMy WebLinkAbout8.3 Summer Concert Series • CITY OF DUBLIN HERITAGE AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION AGENDA STATEMENT MEETING DATE: February 10, 2005 SUBJECT: Summer Concert Series ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive report and provide direction to Staff FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The City is sponsoring Dublin's 9th Annual Summer Concerts series this summer. Five free concerts will be held on Friday evenings, beginning July 8th and ending August 5th, 2005. The concerts are held from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. outdoors at the Dublin Civic Center,in the plaza area and are free to the public. Staff is beginning the process of selection of artists for this summer's series and would like to obtain some direction from the Commission on the different types of music they would like to, see performed. Typically, the summer series features a variety of musical styles including country-western, rhythm & blues,Motown, classic rock and popular music from the past four decades. - For the Commission's review, Staff has compiled a list of bands that have performed at the summer concerts over the past three years, with attendance figures in parenthesis. Each band has been listed under a general category of musical style: Country Rock&Roll (60's-90's) Contemporary Jazz La Deana,(200) Don's Neighbors (200) Downtown Allstars (220) Sky K Band(350) The Back Pages (250) Pamela Rose(250) Double Funk Crunch(400) Infinity(250) Rhythm&Blues Soul/Cajun Busta Groove (450) Zydeco Flames (325) Alta Rockers (300) - Soul Sauce(200) Hurricane Sam(400) The Parrotheads (500) - Besides the general categories listed above, some other types of musical genera to consider are; Modern Rock,-Modern Folk Rock, Top 40, Hot Funk, Rock &Blues, Classical, Folk, Swing/Big Band, Dixieland Jazz, Show-Tunes, Classic Oldies, Orchestral, Caribbean,-Latin/Salsa, Reggae, Mariachi, Afro-Cuban, Irish, Jazz/Eclectic, and Tribute Bands. COPIES TO: ITEM NO. 8.3 G:\HERITAGE COMMISSION\AGENDA STMTS\2005\2-10-05 Summer Concert Series.DOC Based on the Commission's input on styles of music desired, Staff will attempt to contract with individual music groups for the summer series, taking into consideration availability and budget limitations. Staff will also consider summer concert offerings in surrounding cities such as San Ramon, Pleasanton, and Danville, in order to avoid duplicating bookings of the same bands. RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of Staff that the Commission receive the report and provide direction to Staff. • Page 2 of 2
