FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: In order to promote programs and activities at the Heritage Center,
Staff has created an annual schedule of "Upcoming Events" (Attachment 1) which includes exhibits,
workshops and concerts that will target a variety of ages and interest groups.
Events completed in 2007 include:
• Saturday, January 13, 2007 - Winter Concert featuring Michael McNevin: Folk singer and Niles
historian and troubadour, Michael McNevin provided an entertaining evening of original music
and stories about his past experiences and growing up in the area.
• Saturday, January 27, 2007 - Family History Day & Open House: This event was established to
provide the public with an opportunity to meet the author and give input on an upcoming book on
Dublin's history. A lively roundtable discussion was led by a panel consisting of; Mike Lynch,
book author, Dick Finn.and,Anne Holman of the Livermore-Amador Genealogical Society, and
Tom McCormick, Dublin Historian. The event was well attended and yielded stories and
photographs as well as community backing for the book.
2007 scheduled events include:
• February 11, 2007, 2:00 — 4:00 PM - Jessica Callahan in Concert Old St. Raymond's Church:
Blind from birth and only twenty years old, this young woman's_angelic voice and contagious
energy have already been compared to Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Michelle Branch, and Aimee
Mann. $10.00 adults; children twelve and under$5.00

• February 24, 2007, 1:00 —4:00 PM — Youth Workshop-Cowboy Life for ages 4-11: Children can
explore our ranching past with hands on activities such as making their own "brand" for cattle and
panning for gold. Cowboys will tell stories and lead songs around a campfire. There will be
Cowboy cooking demonstrations and tasting. Jean and Dale Olds will provide cowboy musical
fun. $5.00 adults; children twelve and under$3.00
• February 28 - April 8, 2007 Exhibit; T_he Story of Harness Racing by Currier & Ives: On loan
from The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame in Goshen New York, this exhibit includes
more than 30 lithographs from Currier & Ives. From 1834 till 1907, the lithography shop of
"Currier & Ives" produced in excess of 1 million prints which chronicled 19th century American
country life. The prints also tell the story of harness racing's beginnings. Open during museum
hours—free admission.
• March 17 & 18, 2007- St. Patrick's Day Festival: The Heritage Center will have a presence at the
City of Dublin St. Patrick's Festival. The Heritage Center booth will celebrate Dublin's Irish
heritage with displays,music and stories.
• May 20, 2007, 2:00 PM—Old Fashion Kids Bluegrass Concert at Old St. Raymond's Church:
Family Concert featuring lively Bluegrass music. Just Kidding! Lynn and Jill encourage an
awareness of the music they love through the use of play party games, old-time fiddle tunes, story
songs and parody. The audience is encouraged to participate in the music and mood by playing
along with a variety of folk instruments. Performing for 200 plus audiences throughout California,
Just Kidding has been delighting kids of all ages for over 15 years. Lynn and Jill also founded the
Alhambra Valley Band, a popular San Francisco Bay Area group of performers specializing in
Bluegrass, Traditional and Original New Grass Music. The focus of our program is to invite the
audience to become actively involved in the creative process of Traditional American Music.

• July 5 —August 24, 2007 Exhibit; Recovered Views; African American Portraits 1912- 1925: This
extraordinary exhibition of 40 digital prints from vintage photographs and glass negatives, features
black-and-white portraits attributed to John Johnson, an African American photographer who
lived and worked in Lincoln, Nebraska in the early part of the 20th century. These portraits are
more than just stunning images; they document life in a vibrant black community in a small mid-
western city, a society rarely depicted in any medium. The story of how these photographs came
to light is almost as fascinating as the images themselves. Recovered Views offers an opportunity
to see selections from one of the most important American artistic and historical discoveries of
recent years. Open during museum hours—free admission.
• August 6 — 24, 2007 - Teen Museum Apprentice Camp: A one of a kind opportunity for youth
ages 12— 17 to work with a team, learn museum skills and create a public exhibit (complete with a
grand opening party for family and friends.) This camp will feature field trips to the Museum of
Modern Art and Ripley s Believe It Or Not.
• August 24 — October 31, 2007 Exhibit; Ghost Stories from Dublin: Curated by teenagers, this
exhibit will capture the stories of the Pioneer's. Come experience their stories as interpreted by
today's youth. Open during museum hours - free admission.

• Music Jams: Every Tuesday night while the museum is open
2°a &4th Tuesday 7:00-9:00 PM—Bluegrass Jam
1st& 3' Tuesday 7:00-9:00 PM- Old Tyme Music Jam (including Irish and Fiddle music)
• Museum Tours for School Groups: The new tour program will complete its first year by Fall
2007. The new tour program features a pre-tour orientation film, docent led tour, hands-on trunk
exploration, and a tour of the cemetery.
• Summer 2007 - Arcadia Book on Dublin: In conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of Dublin
becoming a city, the Heritage Center is publishing an Arcadia book that will chronicle Dublin's
rich past. The goal is to have the book available for sale for the Day on the Glen, September 15,
2007.
RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of Staff that the Commission receive the
report for the Heritage Center Schedule of Events 2007.

OPEN HOUSE: Family History Day
January 27, 2007 1:00-4:00 PM
In conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of Dublin becoming a City, the Heritage Center is
planning to publish a book that will chronicle Dublin's rich history. Come meet the author and
local historians at this"Open House."The public is encouraged to bring Dublin photos, stories or
information to "show and tell." Complimentary refreshments provided by the Dublin Historic
Preservation Association. Free

The Dublin Heritage Center provides the perfect place to explore our ranching past with hands
on activities. Make your own "brand" for cattle, listen to stories around the campfire, sing

EXHIBIT: The Story of Harness Racing by Currier& Ives."
February 28 -April 8, 2007
"It will nearly be like a picture print by Currier and Ives..." From 1834 till 1907,the
lithography shop of"Currier&Ives" produced in excess of 1 million prints which chronicled
19th century American country life. This exhibit is on loan from The Harness Racing Museum
&Hall of Fame in New York for the first time in California. The exhibit includes more than 30
lithographs that tell the story of harness racing's beginnings and feature great trotting horses,
rural mid-19th century scenes, and comedic adventures. Open during museum hours—Free
admission.

"Just Kidding" is a band that encourages an awareness of the music through the use of games,
old-time fiddle tunes, story songs and parody. The audience is encouraged to participate in the
music and mood by playing along with a variety of folk instruments. Performing for 200 plus
audiences throughout California, Just Kidding has been delighting kids of all ages for over 15
years. Lynn and Jill also founded the Alhambra Valley Band, a popular San Francisco Bay Area
group of performers specializing in Bluegrass, Traditional and Original New Grass Music.
The focus of our program is to invite the audience to become actively involved in the creative

Know a teen in need of a creative challenge, stimulation and an exciting summer experience?
The Dublin Heritage Center is offering a one of a kind opportunity for youth ages 12 — 17 to
work with a team, learn museum skills and create a public exhibit (complete with a grand
opening party for family and friends.) This camp will feature field trips to the Museum of
Modern Art and Ripley's Believe It Or Not. Please contact the Heritage Center for further details
and registration.
