PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
December 13 , 1984
The December 13, 1984 meeting of the Park and Recreation
Commission was called to order at 7 :35 p.m. at the Shannon
Community Center, Dublin, California, by Chairman Zika.
Roll Call
Present: Commissioner Donnell, Hernandez, Ovlen, Schmitt and
Zika.
Approval of Minutes
It was moved by Commissioner Schmitt and seconded by Commissioner
Donnell that the minutes of the November 13 , 1984 meeting be
approved as submitted.
It was moved by Commissioner Donnell and seconded by Commissioner
Ovlen that the minutes of the November 20, 1984 meeting be
approved as submitted.
Dolan Park Site
The Consulting firm of Wilsey and Ham have been hired by the
Developer, Sacramento, Inc. , to study the property and identify
possible locations for the proposed five acre park site.
Mr . DeHorn of Wilsey and Ham wanted to present the proposed park
site to the Park and Recreation Commission and note their
recommendations prior to developing the tentative map which will
be submitted to the City Planning Department for approval .
Various maps and slides of the site were discussed with the
Commission, providing general information regarding the project.
Mr. DeHorn advised the Commission that he will return to the
Commission with the Tentative Map prior to submitting it to City
Planning Department.
Election of Officers
Commissioner Donnell nominated George Zika for Chairman. It was
seconded by Commissioner Ovlen. Approved.
Commissioner Hernandez nominated Liz Schmitt for Vice
Chairperson. It was seconded by Commisioner Ovlen. Approved.
After School Recreation Program
Janette informed the Commission that City Council accepted their
recommendations for both the unstructured and structured
recreation program.
Council directed staff to prepare an evaluative report on the
structured program at the end of three months .
Janette will keep the Commission advised of the program.
St. Patricks ' Day Festivities
Janette reviewed results of the November 29 , 1984 St. Patricks '
Day Committee Meeting.
Commissioner Schmitt was appointed to serve on the Publicity
Committee.
Commissioner Schmitt wanted suggestions on how to
advertise/announce that activities will be at Shannon.
Commissioner Ovlen said he will look into supplying hayrides from
the parade to Shannon for the days activities . He will report
back to the Commission.
Amador Lakes Mini Park
Janette gave a short narrative regarding the status of the Amador
Lakes Mini Park.
Commissioner Schmitt would like to see what is planned for the
park site. Janette said she would contact the developer and
report back to the Commission.
Senior Citizens Discount Directory
Janette gave a short narrative regarding the status of the Senior
Citizens Discount Directory.
Diane Schinnerer, San Ramon Councilwoman and senior citizen
supporter was contacted and stated that San Ramon was definitely
interested and agreed to work with the Chamber of Commerce in
acquiring merchant participation.
They will have a list to us with participating merchants by the
7th of January. In the meantime, she has made a committment to
pay for half of the printing costs through the Senior Center .
She asked if we would be interested in having someone get the
printing donated if an advertisement could be placed in the
brochure.
The Commissioners suggested several local merchants/businesses to
approach for donations for the brochure .
Janette said that she will update the cost estimates after the
January 7th meeting date with San Ramon as the amount of pages
should increase.
San Ramon Senior- Center- Request- To- Waive- Rental . Rates
Janette reviewed a letter addressed to Mayor Snyder from Clelie
D. Quinn, representing the San Ramon Senior Center for a waiver
of rental rates on the Shannon Center for an event June 2, 1985 .
Commissioner Ovlen wanted it noted that "any action is taken
without precedent based on a review of the policies" .
Commissioner Schmitt moved that the we charge $92 . 00 for San
Ramon Senior Center event on June 2 , 1985 without precedent,
based on a review of the policy of the rental fees of Shannon
Park. Commissioner Hernandez seconded the motion. Approved.
Other Business
Commissioner Hernandez would like to see the Park and Recreation
Department have other activities such as an annual 4th of July
Picnic with a concert at Shannon Park. Janette suggested
incorporating this idea along with others for suggestions for
next fiscal years budget.
George wants to have suggestions made at the next meeting for the
budget.
Janette advised the Commission on the Living Tree Ceremony.
Suggestions were made for program changes for next year .
Recreation Brochure was mailed on December 12th and we are
beginning to receive calls about classes offered this quarter.
Stu Larson provided some statistics regarding Dublin residents '
participation in the consortium.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10 :45
p.m. ,to a Personnel Meeting with the Commission.
