PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
November 20 , 1984
The special meeting of the City of Dublin Park and Recreation
Commission was held on November 20, 1984 . The meeting was called
to order at 7 : 45 p.m. , by Vice Chairperson Schmitt, at the
Shannon Community Center, Dublin, California.
Roll Call:
Present: Commissioner Donnell, Hernandez, Ovlen, Schmitt.
Absent: Chairman Zika.
After School Recreation Program:
Janette Howell, Acting Recreation Director and the Commissioners
reviewed the surveys received from the Nielsen, Murray and Cronin
Elementary Schools .
Based on the conclusions reached from the tabulated surveys, the
following recommendations were made:
It was moved by Commissioner Ovlen and seconded by Commissioner
Donnell that the Commission recommend to City Council for full
financial support of a drop-in recreation program designed to
accomodate community needs on an after school and holiday basis .
It was moved by Commision Ovlen and seconded by Commissioner
Hernandez that the City Council recommend the continuation of the
fee based after school program with appropriate modification of
hours and interim subsidy from the City through the end of the
school calendar year.
• Election of Officers
Commissioner Ovlen suggested the postponement of the election of
officers until all Commissioners are present.
Other Business
Janette discussed the upcoming interviews for Recreation
Director. The Commission was told interviews were tentatively
scheduled for December 15th.
The December Park and Recreation Commission meeting will be held
on Thursday, December 13 , 1984, 7 : 30 p.m. , at Shannon Community
Center.
Janette informed the Commission that the City was going to buy a
living tree and that the Commission would be involved with the
dedication ceremony. It was suggested having some caroling and
refreshments at the ceremony. Janette said that she was going to
work with Commissioner Hernandez regarding entertainment for the
event.
Janette asked the Commission members if anyone knew of any
Christmas tree lot owners where she could purchase a tree for
Shannon Center.
Commissioner Hernandez said that she might be able to have a tree
donated to the Center.
Commissioner Hernandez wanted to know how she would go about
getting the rental of Shannon Park reduced for a Senior Health
and Information Workshop.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9 :45 p.m.
