DESCRIPTION: Application recruitment for the 1998/99 Youth Advisory Committee
was completed on Friday, June 19th. The City received 32 youth and 1 adult. Appointments for the next
Youth Advisory Committee will be made at the August 18, 1998 City Council meeting. The following is
a timeline for application and selection of the 98/99 Youth Advisory Committee:
July TBA Parks and Community Services Commission Sub-Committee Interviews
July 20th Parks and Community Services Commission Recommendation
August 18th Mayor Appointment at City Council Meeting

The next term will be from September 1998 to August 1999. The format for selection of the Youth
Advisory Committee includes an interview that is optional for applicants and review of applications by a
sub-committee of the Parks and Community Services Commission. The sub-committee will make
recommendations to the Parks and Community Services Commission. The Commission will then make
recommendations to the Mayor who conveys his selections for the Youth Advisory Committee to the
City Council where formal appointments are made.

Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Committee discuss ways to encourage applicants not selected for the Youth
Advisory Committee to serve on a standing sub-committee.
