Although no plans have been made to date, it has been suggested
that the Tree Lighting Ceremony be moved to the outdoor plaza of
the new City Civic Center. Utilizing the plaza of the Civic
Center has a number of advantages as follows:
1. Adequate Parking
2. Large Outdoor Gathering Space
3. Option of utilizing lobby of Civic Center for
entertainment or refreshments in the event of increment
weather
4. Sufficient Outdoor Lighting
If the Civic Center Plaza were utilized, there are a number of
ways we could approach the tree lighting ceremony. Staff has
identified the following options for Commission consideration:
1. Bring in a large cut Christmas Tree that would be setup
and decorated with lights in the outdoor plaza
2. Instead of a "Christmas Tree", put twinkling lights on
all of the outdoor trees to create a mock winter
wonderland
3. Install lights on the clocktower and have a clocktower
lighting instead of a tree lighting
It is staffs recommendation that the Commission discuss the 1989
Tree Lighting specifically with regards to the location.
Staff will then develop a preliminary plan for review by the
Commission prior to going before the City Council.
