FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The Dublin Senior Center will host its Third Annual Step Out for Senior Centers Event on Saturday,May 15, 2004 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This year's theme will be titled: "Living Well, Aging Well". An added venue will be held at the Dublin Library consisting of an Art Show featuring artists from the Dublin Senior Center classes. The library will also feature other senior resources information in the Tri Valley. What: The Background, The Step Out Event was originally planned to celebrate Senior Center Awareness Week as well as Older Americans Month. Held on the third Saturday in May,this event has traditionally begun with a one-mile walk around the Dublin Senior Center at 9:00 a.m. and included a free breakfast and a display of services and resources available to seniors.Mayor Lockhart has agreed to lead the walk once again. This year,there will be one more venue. The purpose of the Art Exhibit is to attract new patrons to our Center. The Art Show will be held at the Dublin Library as a type of outreach program for seniors to bring the Senior Center activities and services into the community. Using the 2004 Older American's Month theme-"Living Well,Aging Well",the Dublin Senior Center promotes active living and learning for seniors. New Outreach Component at the Dublin Library The Art Show at the Dublin Library will be open to the public on Saturday,May 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. featuring local senior artists from the Senior Center Watercolor Class,Art, and Quilting classes as well as community entries. Participants of this event are invited to the breakfast at the Senior Center. All breakfast attendees will then be encouraged to visit the Dublin Library. See Attachment 1: the Art Show Application, for more information. Why? The Goals This year's goal is to: - To promote health and wellness as well as the visual arts. - To incorporate an outreach component by conducting a service outside the Center to attract new seniors to the Senior Center - To promote the "Living Well,Aging Well"theme - To educate the public about the senior services available to seniors and their families. Those who give of their time through volunteerism as well as participants will be able to experience a sense of service to the community,personal growth and development,healthy lifestyles, lifelong learning while having fun. Donations and Volunteers to Help offset the Cost of the Event Both monetary and in-kind donations will be sought and accepted from local grocers, service clubs, and the Foundation to offset the cost of the breakfast, and the t-shirts. Last year Safeway Grocers and the Dublin Senior Center Foundation were very supportive of our event. Staff will continue to solicit the help of volunteers and service clubs. Staff plans to invite the Dublin Historical Preservation Association,Dublin Sister City Association,Alameda Country Fire Depai tment volunteers, and local adult and high school service groups. Registration Participants are required to pre-register for the Step Out for Senior Center event by calling(925) 829- ' 6316. This year the t-shirts will be sold for$5-$8. The breakfast will be free to all walkers, and participants of this event. Fee This event is free to all participants that include the registration,breakfast and access to all information.
