HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.1 Senior Center Strategic Planning Workshop - Part II 19 �— — 82 � AGENDA STATEMENT � �� SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE 4L/F00\ MEETING DATE: December 7,2006 SUBJECT: Senior Center Strategic Planning Workshop—Part II Report by Paul McCreary, Parks and Community Services Manager ATTACHMENTS: List of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats identified by the Advisory Committee RECOMMENDATION: Receive report and provide input on potential Strategic Goals and Objectives for the next three fiscal years FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The Committee will participate in the second part of a workshop to provide Staff with input on potential goals and objectives for Fiscal Years 2007-2008, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010. This workshop will be conducted at the Dublin Senior Center in an attempt to garner more input from Senior Center patrons. Staff sent personal invitations to over 100 people who regularly participate in Senior Center programs. A continental breakfast will be served. The anticipated outcomes from the workshop will be to validate the existing Strategic Plan and discuss potential programs, services and projects that could help achieve the Senior Center Strategic Goals. At the November meeting of the Senior Center Advisory Committee, the Committee Members discussed what they perceived as the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats as it pertains to the Senior Center programs and operations. Attachment 1 summarizes the input provided by the Committee. Based on that input the Advisory Committee recommended the following Strategic Goals for the Senior Center. Strategic Goal#1: Increase the number of volunteers and enhance volunteer training and retention. Strategic Goal#2: Improve ability to provide consistent, responsive customer service and continue to refine office and building operation procedures. Strategic Goal#3: Develop new programs and services and re-package existing ones to meet the needs of all the segments of the senior market. Strategic Goal#4: Develop means for maintaining reasonable fees while minimizing increases in the subsidy provided by the General Fund for the Senior Center in the future. Strategic Goal #5: Develop means to increase options for transportation to the Senior Center to improve access to programs and services by all senior residents. Strategic Goal#6: Enhance marketing and public outreach to increase awareness of Senior Center programs and services in the community. For example, for Strategic Goal #3 possible objectives could be to establish a Lecture Series or to expand the number of Senior Center events offered on weeknights and weekends. The input from the workshop will be used by Staff to prepare program and budget recommendations for the upcoming Fiscal Year.
