The Center promotes healthy lifestyles for all fitness levels to help seniors improve their physical wellness, strength and balance. Through art and writing, they stimulate creativity. For those interested in travel, the Trips and Tours Program opens up a whole new world of discovery and lifelong learning. Following is the summary of attendance during the spring 2006 quarter. In March, the Dublin seniors ventured to Golden Gate Fields for a "Day at the Races" which included a wonderful buffet lunch at the Turf Club. The second trip was taken to "Land's End" located near the Cliff House in San Francisco. The day included a 3 Y2 mile hike, and a tour of Sutro Park, and the Sutro Bath Ruins. March special events included a St. Patrick's Luncheon with entertainment by Margaret and, Kristoph. The 23rd Annual St. Patrick's Day Festival entertainment was staged in the Senior Center Ballroom. Manny Gutierrez and his Quartet Band drew a dance crowd 56 seniors at the March Dinner Dance. • COPIES.TO: ITEM NO. 7 .2 G:\SRCTRADVCMTE\Statements\2006\8-03-06 Spring Quarterly Stmt finalp.doc In April, three day trips were offered. The first trip was to the musical performance of"Menopause" and lunch at Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco. The Trail Trekkers visited Point Reyes National Park. The third trip was to a musical production called "Back to Bacharach" at the famous Fallon Theatre located in Columbia State Park. The April Luncheon crowd enjoyed the sounds of BE Bozak and his Dixieland Jazz Band. Twenty lucky seniors were treated to an A's Game by 20 Fallon Middle School Leadership students. As a service project, the Leadership group selected to treat seniors to a professional baseball game. The students raised enough money to pay for each person's round trip BART fare, admission to the game and lunch. This is a fantastic intergenerational program in its second year and was developed by Dublin Unified School District teacher Nancy Karell. Last year the first trip offered was offered by the Wells Middle School Leadership class. Finally, Collette Vacations Extended Travel offered a Spirit of Washington, D.C. trip and two people went from the Senior Center. In May, the van trips included an outing to Korbel Champagne Cellars and Occidental for lunch, and a trip to Bay Meadows in San Mateo for a Day at the Races. The May Luncheon entertainment was provided by vocalist, Shirley Dougarian. The seniors enjoyed participating in an English Tea at the April Crossing Cultures Program. The May Dinner Dance attracted a crowd of 56 seniors who enjoyed the sounds of Manny Gutierrez and his Quartet Band. The Dublin Senior Center celebrated Older Americans Month with its 5th Annual "Step Out for Senior Centers" event. This year's theme was "A Celebration of Age: Connecting with Your Inner Spirit." A fun-filled day started with a walk at 9:00 a.m. Seventy-five walkers were led by Mayor Lockhart and the Dublin Police Department, which provided assistance during the walk. A pancake breakfast was prepared and served by the Dublin Historical Preservation Association to over 100 seniors and friends. The Opening Ceremonies featured over twenty vendors who provided information about a variety of senior services. The educational workshops also attracted seniors to this event. The keynote speaker, Marita Grudzen, of Stanford Geriatric Education and the School of Medicine, provided a special workshop entitled: "Connecting with Your Inner Spirit" from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. From 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., four mini-workshop demonstrations were held. They were Pilates by Valentin, Laughter Yoga by Lydia Gonzales, Chi gong by the Be Well Institute, and Yoga and Mediation by Kathryn Chess.
