GRAND OPENING OF THE NEW DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER
Staff gave an overview of the Gala Banquet and Open House events to take place in conjunction with the
grand opening of the new Dublin Senior Center. The Gala Banquet event will be held on a Thursday
August 4 and the Open House on a Saturday August 6. Staff reported that the invitations to the Gala
Banquet were mailed out the week of June 27 to all Dublin Senior Center Supporters, dignitaries and
announced to the general public. Staff urged the Committee Members to purchase their tickets as soon as
possible if they had not already done so, since tickets were selling faster than expected. The tickets were
priced for seniors, 55 years and older for $25 per person; and adults, 54 and younger, would be sold at
$45 per person or $80 per couple. Individuals who requested to sit as a group of eight by purchasing
their tickets at the same time would be the only reserved seating that would be accommodated at the Gala.
Valley Catering of Dublin has been contracted to provide full service catering for the Gala Banquet event.
The details of the menu and specifics will be determined by Staff and sub-committee members (Greer
Payton and Al Edge) at a food tasting to be scheduled within the next week.
The Committee suggested changing the proposed menu for the Gala dinner to include prime rib instead of
tri-tip. Staff indicated they would determine if that would be feasible.
Staff announced the schedule of events that would take place at the Open House on Saturday, August 6.
This free event will consist of a Walk, a Ribbon Cutting, an Art Exhibition, and a Health and Information
Fair. Staff shared the theme for the event: "A Celebration of Ages — Connecting the Mind, Body and
Spirit". The Mayor and City Council members will begin the walk at 10:30 p.m. leading the attendees
from the old Senior Center to the new Senior Center. An official Ribbon Cutting is scheduled to begin at
11:00 a.m. Attendees of the event will be able to obtain information from various vendors at the Health&
Information Fair, enjoy an Art Exhibit featuring the artwork of various senior artists, and live
entertainment from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Committee expressed interest in selecting fish Dancers
to be the opening act for the entertainment.

The Health and Information Fair will consist of several senior providers from the Tri Valley and Alameda
County. Staff also invited Eden Housing to provide tours of its new facility located across from the new
Senior Center.
In brief, the Advisory Committee Members were pleased with the theme and the changes that were made
by Staff and the sub-committee to date. Hans Berg reminded Staff that steel drummers could be found
and possibly obtained by contacting the Chabot College Music Department.
Other Business
Staff announced that the Dublin Senior Foundation's Fireworks Booth Fundraiser did exceptionally well
during the week of Fourth of July. Several senior supporters from the Dublin Senior Center volunteered
their time for the Dublin Senior Foundation to work in the Fireworks Booth this year. This event is a joint
effort by the Dublin Senior Foundation, the Dublin Lions Club, and the Women's Club of Dublin and San
Ramon.
