Oral Communications-None Approval of the Minutes BY UNANIMOUS VOTE, THE COMMITTEE APPROVED THE MINUTES OF THE JUNE 2, 2005 MEETING. MOTION BY CM BERG,SECONDED BY CM GIFFORD. Written Communication-None Unfinished Business—None New Business GRAND OPENING OF THE NEW DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER Staff gave an overview of the Gala Banquet and Open House events to take place in conjunction with the grand opening of the new Dublin Senior Center. The Gala Banquet event will be held on a Thursday August 4 and the Open House on a Saturday August 6. Staff reported that the invitations to the Gala Banquet were mailed out the week of June 27 to all Dublin Senior Center Supporters, dignitaries and announced to the general public. Staff urged the Committee Members to purchase their tickets as soon as possible if they had not already done so, since tickets were selling faster than expected. The tickets were priced for seniors, 55 years and older for $25 per person; and adults, 54 and younger, would be sold at $45 per person or $80 per couple. Individuals who requested to sit as a group of eight by purchasing their tickets at the same time would be the only reserved seating that would be accommodated at the Gala. Valley Catering of Dublin has been contracted to provide full service catering for the Gala Banquet event. The details of the menu and specifics will be determined by Staff and sub-committee members (Greer Payton and Al Edge) at a food tasting to be scheduled within the next week. The Committee suggested changing the proposed menu for the Gala dinner to include prime rib instead of tri-tip. Staff indicated they would determine if that would be feasible. Staff announced the schedule of events that would take place at the Open House on Saturday, August 6. This free event will consist of a Walk, a Ribbon Cutting, an Art Exhibition, and a Health and Information Fair. Staff shared the theme for the event: "A Celebration of Ages — Connecting the Mind, Body and Spirit". The Mayor and City Council members will begin the walk at 10:30 p.m. leading the attendees from the old Senior Center to the new Senior Center. An official Ribbon Cutting is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Attendees of the event will be able to obtain information from various vendors at the Health& Information Fair, enjoy an Art Exhibit featuring the artwork of various senior artists, and live entertainment from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Committee expressed interest in selecting fish Dancers to be the opening act for the entertainment. Page 1 of 2 The Health and Information Fair will consist of several senior providers from the Tri Valley and Alameda County. Staff also invited Eden Housing to provide tours of its new facility located across from the new Senior Center. In brief, the Advisory Committee Members were pleased with the theme and the changes that were made by Staff and the sub-committee to date. Hans Berg reminded Staff that steel drummers could be found and possibly obtained by contacting the Chabot College Music Department. Other Business Staff announced that the Dublin Senior Foundation's Fireworks Booth Fundraiser did exceptionally well during the week of Fourth of July. Several senior supporters from the Dublin Senior Center volunteered their time for the Dublin Senior Foundation to work in the Fireworks Booth this year. This event is a joint effort by the Dublin Senior Foundation, the Dublin Lions Club, and the Women's Club of Dublin and San Ramon.
